I bought a used 3 point back hoe for my B2601. I am a little confused on what I need to hook up the hydraulics. I read about a 3 function valves and power beyond ports. What do I need? I went to Kuobta for help but they were holding that info like state secrets. The backhoe currently has two lines that need to hook up to the tractor.

Has anyone hooked up a aftermarket backhoe or have experience in this? Any info is greatly appreciated, obviously this is my first tractor

Welcome to the forum :)

My 'backhoe ready' B2601 has two hydraulic hoses set up for connection to a BH70 backhoe (which I ordered 3 months ago but have not received). I believe that these hoses were installed as part of the backhoe attachment package, which included a backhoe subframe (already installed). The BH70 backhoe has 4 (iirc) hydraulic cylinders (boom, dipper, bucket, swing (1)) plus two outriggers. There are two control sticks for the four hydraulic cylinders; each stick controls 2 with fore-back & side-side lever actions. My connections are color-coded; without that guidance it would be hit or miss when performing connections for a newbie (like me).

My guess is that in your case you will need a pair of hydraulic hoses, plus some hydraulic connectors. Without the backhoe attached, one of my hoses is capped, the other is connected back to the HST housing. To attach the hoe I need to disconnect the attached hose and connect one from the hoe to the point where the uncapped hose was connected, while connecting the two tractor-connected hoses to points on the hoe.

It may be such that with a 3-point hoe, not having the backhoe 'kit' pieces included, you may have to use rear mounted remotes for the connection. Additionally, the Kubota 'backhoe package' includes a swivel seat mechanism, not sure what to do in your case.

Sorry to be so vague, hope you solve the issue - good luck(y)

You may also use a pto driven hydraulic pump with a separate reservoir.. A lot of 3 point hitch backhoes use this system.

A picture is worth a thousand words.

Does the backhoe have 3 lines or 2 to the controls? Do you know what kind of machine it was attached to originally? Do you have a manual or make/model of the BH? Does it have it's own oil reservoir and filter?

We first need to establish if it is set up for open center or closed center hydraulic system or if it is designed to run off a PTO powered pump. Kubota tractors use open center hydraulics and trying to run a close center attachment will be problematic at best.

3 lines is clearly open center. 2 lines to the controls could be any of the 3 options. Open center BH can be supplied with only two lines if there is a 3rd function valve on the tractor itself. Closed center systems only use 2 lines for anything and would not require a valve on the tractor. PTO pump systems will also have 2 lines, but the big clue would be an independent oil reservoir built into the BH itself.

Don't look for any hoses!
Sell the used 3pt backhoe!
Get a backhoe with a subframe instead, or you will very likely rip the rear of your B2601 apart.
There is a long history of folks who have done serious mechanical damage using a 3pt hoe.
If you opt to keep the 3pt hoe, you should put $7K in a money market account,..... for future repairs.

You will need two hoses an s set of quick connectors to connect the hoe to the loader valve. Simple and in expensive.

Well do not tell my B2910 that. My 3PH backhoe has seen lots of use over the last 20 years. BUT it does have a HEAVY DUTY top link bracket installed.

Being cautious is great advice when considering a 3PH backhoe. Mine was Kubota branded and dealer installed according to Kubota requirements at the time.

Certainly agree a subframe setup is better. BUT 3PH backhoes do and can work reliably, if installed properly. I think that comes down to having a heavy duty top link bracket. Available for a B2601? No clue here.

Maybe the thus far unnamed backhoe manufacturer can supply guidance.
Seems perfectly clear to me. The backhoe has two lines to hook to the tractor. One is pressure in from the tractor and the other is a tank return. About as standard as you get and easy to hook up.

All we really know thus far is that it has two lines. Maybe they connect to the tractor, but it is also possible that they connect to a PTO pump.

As for fitting it to a B2601, we don't have any information at all about the size of the thing. 6'? 7'? 8'? 800 lbs? 1800 lbs?

Certainly cannot dispute your individual 3pt backhoe success.
The fact remains that there is a bevy of incidents, where the top link attach has failed, costing the owner many thousands.

The man has already decided its suitable for the tractor. His question was how to hook it up to the tractor's hydraulic system. It has a valve with two hoses. I dont think that is a mystery. You guys are making this way too complicated.

BUT he may not realize there are issues to be considered when using a 3 point backhoe.

Many here try to point out dangers that others might not think about.

Hydraulic hookup is one thing. Potential issues not considered are another.

Just my take on it.

That's great - you guys can educate him while I help him get his hoe hooked up.

Dan,

Alex (who could be an Alexander or an Alexandra) said (s)he is confused. (S)He said (s)he doesn't know what (s)he needs. (S)He implied the Kubota dealer wouldn't tell him/her (not sure why not).

I think it is at least possible that the OP doesn't even know exactly what questions to ask. Perhaps it is best to avoid jumping to any conclusions without further information and then we can go beyond the question asked and provide the information that is needed.

3 point backhoes are the most dangeous implement that one can install.

Now that is out of the way....

it is what it is, it's what you have.

Most of them have a pto shaft mounted hydraulic pump. Reservoir is built into the backhoe hoses come from the reservoir, one will have a filter and the other won't. Those generally go to the pto shaft mounted pump.

there are a few that rely on the tractor and the b2601's pump is small, thus the hoe is going to be very slow. Maybe weak depending on how the hoe's hydraulic system is made. IF that's the style you have, you'll have to tap into the tractor somehow. The majority of the time the backhoe will run off of the power beyond circuit.

I seen that many do come with their own pump but this one did not. The pump can be bought all day long but I am not sure about the reservoir. How big does the reservoir have to be? Anyone have any links on where to buy just a pump and reservoir? All I seem to find if in combinations are for log splitters that have a control lever which I dont think I need

Can someone check my logic? If I was to get a PTO pump and the properly sized reservoir would the plumbing be:

-Out from pump to In on backhoe
-Out from backhoe to In on reservoir?
-Out of reservoir to In on pump?

Oh I didn't know the backhoe itself had its own reservoir (hopefully). Then again I never looked that close as I am still in the information gathering phase before I attempted anything. I will take a better look this weekend. If so that makes it even that much easier.

Where would I tap into the power beyond circuit. I cant find anything that points to something and says this here is the power beyond port. There is a "Aux" port under my seat that is capped off by a plate but looks so tiny.

I believe that is the way my 3PH backhoe is. Mine also includes a filter. Probably on the inlet side of the pump. If I remember and have a tape measure I hand I will measure the tank, and check where the filter is.

I have heard the same too so I decided to mount it to a trailer and will only need my tractor to move it around and for hydraulic pressure.

The backhoe itself is a Kelley B851.
