Chevy Equinox Lift actuator/ support clip part

This sounds foolish in my book.

The only way I can get the little ring-type clip that holds the lift support/actuator to the ball joint to the lift gate on my wife’s 2018 Chevy Equinox LT is to buy the whole assembly.

It’s a small ring-type clip that’s about 3/4” long and 3/8” wide.

She lost one somehow. Given the looks of the other, they’re not made to last long.

It just slides down a couple slits on the end of the support, and has notches that the shaft for the ball-end snap into.

Jesus, I hate to buy the whole thing when I need a 50 cent part....[emoji3064]

I went to the Chevy dealer and 4?other parts stores this morning and stuck out.

In the picture, it’s just the rusty “band” that is on the end of the actuator. Remember, this is a 2018 vehicle, although we live in upstate New York...

Any suggestions?

I'd head to a scrap yard and see if they won't let you buy one for a couple bucks or have one for free.

I can check tomorrow when I get to work if we have any liftgate struts left over from the recall Mazda had. About a year ago I could have had you a lifetime supply of those clips if they would work.

Check out Ace Hardware, they usually have a good selection of odd hardware, and then lowes or, home Depot if you strike out there.

McMaster-Carr sells them. I used them for my Xterra liftgate when mine went south. They are listed with the gas springs.

Could check with your favorite body shop, my guy has piles of them stowed away,he usually ends up with good struts when replacing used hatches. That and they are usually replaced in pairs and quite often one is still good.

It would cost GM $.12 to make those out of stainless -or alloy... And America wonders why GM vehicles are not selling. I see this strike going past Christmas.

I doubt that any car manufacturer actually builds these themselves. Way too much time and effort. Easier to just order them from someone else. If GM were to make them, the strut would be 200 rather than 20 and that clip would be fabricated out of plastic that breaks after 6 months.

Now I’ve got some good leads to go on!

I tried to figure if the threaded ends would work, and getting my flashlight realized the struts on my little HF tool cart are pretty close...guess you don’t “see” stuff until you really look...[emoji15]

Be SURE to add a drop of oil to it every month or so....
or..

keep a spare in the glovebox !!!
