I should have added I have a lot of experience with tire machines.
I used to be an automotive ASE Master Tech. I've done way too many tires.
I tried one of the Harbor Freight tire changers. Bolted it down in my garage and proceeded to mangle it doing truck tires. I didn't bother reinforcing it. Now I have a NIB one sitting in the corner of the garage.
All the work and upgrades required to do nice wheels isn't really worth it IMO. I'd rather have the real thing at that point.

When you bring your car (or anything) in for service you don't know who you're going to get. Or if they're having a good day or not.
Truck tires are challenging for some to balance correctly.
Plus the drive there, and the wait. And the drive back. Time is money.

Easier to have your own machine. I haven't got one yet because even used good ones are expensive and I have other priorities. If I can do my tractor tires on one too, gives me extra impetus to get one.

Only problem I had with my HF TC was running out of 'steam'. Mind you I only have 16" rims. Using LOTS of 'soap/slippery stuff' really made a HUGE difference
Almost bought a pro tire changer, $500, but couldn't justify the space it demands. Now, at 70 , it'd be nice but yeesh, I like to support the local YOUNG mechanic !

You should just get a nitrogen machine. :D
Yeah, it would only take the rest of my life, and that of my kids to break even.
I don't use much, but when I need compressed air out in the middle of nowhere, it is indispensable. Whopping $14 every 4-5 years.

When I bought new tires for my B7100, normal tire shop mounted the fronts with no problem.
However, no normal tire shops could get the rears to seat. (4 different shops)
Found a shop nearby that specialized in tractor & forklift tires and they mounted them and seated them in about 60 seconds each.
The difference was that they used the tire lube full strength, where everyone else thins it to save a few cents.
On top of that, after hearing my tale of woe, they refused to accept any money for mounting my tires.
I brought them a dozen donuts everyday for a week.

I did quite a few of them on a Hofmann "monty" tire machine at the old job (kubota dlr)

they have adapters that you can buy that allow one to clamp 6" wheels. I did a number of BX tire/wheels until it became cost-prohibitive for the customer (labor rates went from $75/hr to $95/hr). At the same time labor rates went up, we realized that we could buy a wheel/tire assembly from wholegoods for the same price as just the tire from parts, without labor. That's likely changed.

but yes you can get adapters to hold the little wheels. I have a different machine where i work now, does up to 24" rims which I maxed out last week doing some 50" tires on a Polaris. Heavy!
