Hey everybody....
All I can say about the alpacas is I am so glad I did not invest in the alpaca biz like many others around the MD area....
People lost life savings... I'm not an expert on alpacas at all but from what I have read they were a lot more valuable BEFORE they started infiltrating the herds with imports... Doesn't matter to me I like them and they needed help so we took them.... Very curious animals. They sure are low maintenance all they do is walk around and chew on hay
WE are only about 3 miles from the nearest town, gas station and about 10 miles from diesel. Not really in the middle of nowhere but it feels like it right now...The driveway is about 1'2 mile long so that is the challenge I can see US rt 340 in the distance and it has been closed for a while and now I see traffic so I guess its clear now.
We used to use oil and then propane but then the electric energy efficient heat pump along with wood heat served us well. We are so fortunate the electric is underground and we rarely have power issues. ..
Now that oil is cheap again I might switch back...sure could have used it for the tractor
The neighbor that is approx. 1/2 mile away has made a walkway about 1/4 mile long with his snowblower. I am going to try and find a friend who can bring me a can of diesel up the walkway so I can get to plowing..
biggest challenge will be just getting to the walkway LOL.
I never knew it would be so difficult to walk in snow that high.... actually it isn't hard I'm just old
I keep looking in the fuel tank and I am finally at the point I have to stop. It has maybe an ounce of fuel left... I think God was doing like the loaves of bread and making it last as long as possible.
I don't want to have to prime the diesel if it runs out. I have only had to do that on large trucks when I was driving commercially in upstate new York. It wasn't hard but in those days it gelled up easily and of course the fuel lines hung down at the bottom so it would freeze on top of that! What I do remember is that it was messy as hell and I hate getting that diesel smell all over everything LOL
I have a close friend who is a reefer mechanic for carrier and he will help me with parts as most reefers run a D750 Kubota engine.
I should have bought the one he rebuilt and I listed on ebay for him. It looked new..just didn't have the 1800.
We are slowly melting however weather says the next few nights will be in the teens and then finally on Friday and Saturday 58-60 degrees yea!!! Now we will have mud everywhere.....
Thanks to you all for the advice and I will be back very soon as I try and rebuild some things on my old b7100 with the help of this great bunch of people on OTT
Rick
