Just today, bought a 2012 BX2660 with 71 hours. Started mowing my lawn and at full throttle the engine sounded like it was misfiring. I was wearing ear plugs so wasn't sure but looked at the digital tachometer and the rpms were fluctuating as much as 400 from a low of 2750 to high of 3150. I stopped the mower, reduced the engine speed and still had rpm fluctuation of more than 50 rpms. There is no unusual smoke on startup or run.
I have two other Kubotas and have had no such issues with either that have owned for many years.
The tractor looks absolutely new and when I called the private party owner he was concerned as he had not experienced that and suggested I check the fuel filter as something may have been picked up out of the fuel tank.
I have not done that yet but wanted to run this issue out for the consideration of your forum.
Thank you to anyone that can lend some help.

Welcome to OTT...

It is a great place to learn from the many knowledgeable people here that are willing to share. Someone should be along that knows that tractor to help out.

Not being a diesel expert, but it does sound fuel related.
how old is fuel?
how clean is fuel?
look at both fuel filters. If unsure - replace them

my outside swag is that you have water in the fuel,
do report back when you find the problem! good luck

Change fuel (fresh diesel), change fuel filter, check / change air filter.
Make sure you follow procedure to bleed air out of fuel system after filter change.

Might be a good idea to run some kind of diesel fuel treatment with the fresh fuel just in case there's any moisture in the tank! Good luck and welcome aboard!

fabieber,

Welcome!!

This is my short list to check-

- does it misfire without the deck engaged while not moving?

If so start at idle and slowly raise the RPM till you see the revs fluctuate. This will give a good baseline of when the engine is "missing"

If it only misses with the deck engaged and your moving it may be a safety switch.

Let us know what you find.

Did you refill the tank and maybe get some gasoline mixed in with the fuel? Yes it can and does happen and will make y ou tractor run like crap,,, drain refill with new fuel, maybe even change your fuel filters while your at it and,, before you ask,,,, I don't think there are but a very few in here that haven't at sometime got gas in the diesel fuel can

I'd clean the fuel filter per the manual. Take out the air filter and bang it out just to be sure it's 'clean'. After cleaning the fuel filter you will need to bleed the system per the manual. It's pretty easy and should just be a matter of opening the valve at the injection pump and turning the engine over for the specified time.
