On thing I realized today was I'd never be with out a BX ever again. This thing is slicker than greased weasel poop. Won my first battle with a stump today. Loving the "Claw" couldn't have done it with the bucket. After we got the stump out the chipper went back on and we got another trailer full of chips. Wifely is really enjoying the chipper as well. Come on tomorrow 
The thumb is a handy to have as anything. I installed a hyd thumb on my trackhoe and I really don't see how anyone can do without one.
Well alrighty then... That's one way of looking at it. Down here we usually call them homeless or bums...

Your right about the thumb. I might do a hydraulic one this winter but I'd like to design a cutter for the thumb area to cut roots. I'll have to give tat one some thought.
And politicians
You being from a equipment background I'm sure you have already used a hyd thumb before. It's so much more usefull to be able to go from digging to picking up and back to digging and never have to leave the seat.
The root cutter would be a good idea. You already have half of it built when you designed the claw. I'm sure it will be interesting to see what you come up with.

Here are a couple of ideas when you get to it. First one is a hand tool but you can probably make a similar blade to go somewhere onto the back hoe (thumb or back of claw?)

This is something that looks like it would work if there are no rocks in the soil. Where I live this would last about 5 minutes or the tractor would become toast. Not sure that you need to go much further down than 5 or so inches to get most roots cut.

Thanks guys for the comments, suggestions and the links. I got some ideas to work with. It'll be winter before I go to doing something in the way of fabrication but it will be done

I have to say that I like the tool box that came with the BX25D. It's simple but very effective. The box is only made to attach to the left side but I wanted one for the right side as well so I ordered the kit and yesterday Newfoundland Kubota called and said it was in. We dropped into the dealer to pick it up and was pleasantly surprised when they said "this is compliments of the dealership". How cool is that? Wow. I was pleased to say the least.
Anyway I had an hour to attached it this morning but before I could I had to make a few changes to make it work on the right side so after some pondering I decided to cut on bracket off and re-weld it on the other side of the bracket. Yes it made it a little tricky to get the nuts on but I got it mounted on the right side plus the off set is perfect for turning the seat when I need to operate the back hoe.
I figured I'd post this simple little mod just in case someone else was considering it.

Its flipped over because it acts as a spacer for the right side. These will only fit the left side and if I didn't flip it, it couldn't even attach to the right side. Flipping the plate allowed the thing to attach plus it gave me enough offset to still move the seat. Win, win.
That's a tiny tool box Jack! Barely enough there to hold my lunch for the day... What kinda items do you keep in the tiny lunch box?
With Wildfire's modification skills I bet those toolboxes have been transformed into magic boxes that have unlimited storage space on the left side and the right is stocked with enough supplies to make Home Depot blush like a little girl.

I like those Kubota tool boxes. Ya they might look a little small but the whole dam tractor is small so it's all relevant isn't it?
That being said here's another thing I added for storage. First aid kit? Wrenches/Screwdrivers?
What ever will fit and they come in two sizes. Eric I'm on a diet so the new right side box will be for a light snack.

Oh it gets worst. There's a 24 minute video uploading now that actually shows it working. Yup. The first part shows the chipper and the second half shows the "Claw" working
