BX24 Seat Kill Switch?

I've got a BX24 that I bought several years ago. Periodically, it won't start - even though I'm properly seated and the brake is on. I usually jiggle the seat, lift it forward and it starts. I located and pulled the switches that I found under the seat apart and cleaned them with alcohol. Everything was fine.

Today, the tractor will start with the brake off and me not sitting on it.

I'm ASSuming that my (or one of my) kill switches is malfunctioning. I located the seat kill switch - the tractor will start with no brake on and no weight on the seat. Slightly moving the PTO lever causes the tractor to shut off.

Are there more than 1 seat kill switch?

Should the tractor ever start when no brake and no one sitting on it?

My BX2360 will start without me in the seat and no brake, as long as the PTO is off, and the HST pedal is centered. Always has.

There are seat, PTO and HST pedal safety switches. All can cause a non-start condition. Tractor won't crank/turn over. There is also an Operator Presence Controller (OPC) that ties them together somehow... I don't understand that one well, as I haven't had an issue with one.

My BX2360 is similar in age, but I think your BX24 is one generation older. It may not have the same features.

I'm wondering if you actually had a different switch issue before that prevented the non-start, or the seat switch was faulty before, and now you have it working properly.

Normally, the FAULT in a switch will cause it to not start for safety reasons, not allow a start when it shouldn't be running.

My first suggestion is to get an Operators Manual and also a Workshop Manual (WSM). While they won't include the loader and backhoe, I think your tractor is the same as the BX2350 tractor.

Other BX guys can correct me if I'm off in my thinking.

Same here.. my BX2680 starts with no brake or me in seat, I think you are correct with him cleaning switches and now they are working correctly.

Some time ago someone provided a chart showing which BX models were the same.

In the case of a BX24 a BX2350 is the same.

The BX2350 Operators' manual on page 44 instructs owners on how to verify the correct operation of the various safety switches and controls.

I have attached the page. Read through it carefully.

This seat switch and pto switch test demonstrates the operation of the OPC timer in item #5. Operator Presence Controller.

My BX25D has always started with nobody on the seat.

It would be a royal pain if it didn't.
