I Figure this comes up a lot but I am torn between a bx and a b series. I have about 3 acres to mow and a lot of it is around trees and on side hills some steep places. My gravel driveway is about 1/2 mile long and also a hill and right now it has about 18 inches of snow laying on it. Mainly the tractor is going to be used to mow but I want to be able to push snow, repair gravel driveway, do light bush hogging and every now and then dig/clean ditches. I want to be able to till some to plant food lots etc as well. I want to be stable and get good traction. I don't mind spending a little extra time to get a job done but also don't want to overtax the machine. I've looked at the bx25 that I like because of $ and it looks stable. I like the b3200 because of the extra power and lift capacity and weight but I think the larger size might be a problem when mowing around objects and such. And I sure don't wanna spend extra money for something that will cause me extra work when mowing which is what I'll do the most of. But I don't want to be stuck in deep snow when we happen to get 30 inches.

I'm sure that the BX will most likely do all that you want just fine. If it were my choice I would go with the B. You can't go wrong with a larger size if you have the room for it. You will always find some application down the road that you wish you just had a little bigger machine.

Thanks. Glad to be here. Are there more advantages or disadvantages to either that I'm not seeing? I can't seem to find a price on bx25 without a backhoe. But with a loader and mower. And will the bx25 push enough snow on the hill? Not sure the most real world differences in advantages with the 2320 2620 or 2920 would be for me besides the 3200 or bx either
Not sure you will find a price on a BX25 without a backhoe (b/h)- I think the b/h basically defines the BX25. If mowing was a big deal for you, I think it would be made that much harder doing with the b/h, or hassling to get it off.
If you don't need the b/h you are probably looking at the BX23xx or BX26xx which will probably feel just like BX25 otherwise. Definitely good machines.
A few years ago we bought a BX1860 and now I wish I would have bought a B-series for the bigger bucket and heavier capacities.
I'd be in the doghouse now though if I upsized "her" tractor...
Looks like the largest mid-mount mower (MMM) you'd get on a BX or small B series is 60".
If you bump up to a B3200 you could get a 72" MMM... what is that, 20% wider? For every 5 passes with the bigger mower, you'd have to do 6 passes on the smaller one...
You could probably pull a 3pt finishing mower as big as you'd like with any of them, but if you are going around a lot of obstacles, a wide 3pt finishing mower might suck at that...
I need the capability/possibility of a backhoe just wanted to price compare the b to the bx price apples to apples. And the backhoe addition to the b series adds 8k to the price. I don't think the backhoe on the bx would be as expensive. My biggest concern tho is maneuverability in my yard and roll over resistance. Also the resistance to sliding whether sideways or front or backwards. If the b would be suitable and not restrict the amount of work I can use it for then ill go with it. But probably not the backhoe now bc of price. And I can get a bx with a backhoe for what the b costs without a backhoe.
The biggest problem I see with the bx and a lot of snow is ground clearance. The trans only has about 6 inches of clearance.
I love my BX25 and mow 3 acres in about 2 hours, mostly flat and only about 20 trees. My lane is only 500 feet but if i got that much snow at a time, a front snowblower would be needed. I maybe looking at a snowblower next year, currently using the FEL and a rear blade.
With the front mount snowblower height is not an issue at all if your in the woods it might be with stumps but the bx25 has been perfect in deep deep snow for me.
I have a b2920. No experience with bx's. I wanted larger hp with more weight to handle snow blower and mow 3 acres of lawn. I have the 60 in mmm. The 3200 is a larger frame overall. I was glad I did not get 3200 do to turning radius around trees that I have. I some times wish I went with a bx to get around the trees. Back hoe in future an loader to come soon. love my b2920. The only complaints but I am not sure if bx's would be same complaints
1. PTO stops when I want to change from med-low range.... Not done often but when I am snow blowing I just wish the snow blower would keep running
2. Cant seem to use brakes to help steer with the snow blower attached or to turn shorter and not tear up lawn when mowing

The BX will do just as much as the B series, but just a little slower. The BX did a very good job cutting the grass in my yard. Its deck and lifting system, for the mower deck, is a suspension type deck. So is the 2x20. The B3200 is a ground engage mowing deck. It runs along the ground on wheels and casters. It does ok, but not like the BX.

Thanks for the replies guys. Looks like I could probably do with a bx series. My Pops is Getting a bigger tlb in near future and he lives about 15 min away with trailer so i can probably borrow it for big jobs. There's a bx23 for sale locally with a 60in mmm and pto driven mulcher with 250 hrs for $8000. Would that be a suitable alternative to bx25? I have a lot of leaves in the fall as I live with woods all around me. Decent price?
Correction I was misinformed. It's a 2230 mmm w pto driven bragger mulcher 300 hrs

One day the deck dropped to the ground, and would not stay at the set height until the dealer repaired it. There have been several instances where this has happened to others.

I was going to say you would be ok with the BX but when you say you want to brush hog......the B might be a better choice?
I chose the B over the BX for the added clearance maintaining my bush roads.
I looked at the B2920, but ended with the the biggest BX,,the BX2670. Only have used the FEL on some stuff and the 3point to pull a trailer while cleaning up some ice storm damage. I'm coming from a GR2120 which was a awesome machine,,looking forward to mowing with this one. Happy with my choice, did find out I need to remove the deck in order to put the tractor in spots I want to go and not drag. No big deal. I have a RTR0550 LP tiller but not used it yet, will this spring to re-till an area for re-seed.
first post I have had my 2230 for 9 years pretty well satisfied going to trade getting b3200 one of the last made didn't want the new emissions getting loader and 72in mower before deal is done anybody have any advice wanted more pto hp if I chose to run a generator
I like my BX and would add this,, remember it is a SMALL tractor very nimble and the BX2670 has all the power you will ever need in a SMALL tractor. You will run out of traction long before you run out of power that's a given fact. Just keep in mind that its small and not a 988 use her in the way it should be used although all of us have at one time or another pushed the envelope more than once with no really bad effect. Use it like it was designed and you will not be disappointed,
