Between the BX and the ZD326/ZD331, I hate the fuel filters!

There are hose clamping pliers available for, well, crimping off hoses. I bought a set from Matco, I think about $30, probably available elsewhere for 1/3. 3 plastic pliers with a lock on them, and the jaws are dull as could be. They don't damage the hose one bit. Real simple to use. The smallest plier is the one I use the most for fuel filters. The largest plier is for like radiator hoses.

Put some gloves and a rain jacked on. Or wear a garbage sack over your body. Do the filter change first thing in the morning before you're out and running around on the tractor all day so that once you get a half gallon of diesel all over you and your arms, hands, etc, it'll have some time for the stink to wear off. If you don't wear a plastic garment, use some old clothes and take a change to the shop/garage with you, once the filters are changed, change clothes and throw the diesel-ruined clothing on the burn pile and touch it off. That works very good, by the way (experience speaking). I don't know about y'all but my girlfriend hated the smell of diesel fuel so when I have to do a BX or ZD filter change, it's almost guaranteed that we will be sleeping in separate rooms. Seems like no matter how much you wash or scrub, the stink just won't come out of your skin.

Lugbolt - good advice on the rain jacket!
I’ve gotten a diesel shower both times changing my BX filter underneath the tractor! One time I knocked my pliers off the line...got a good bath before I hooked them back up!

O yes, the wonderful filter under the floor. This is the one that made me think I should have looked more at green. I have since learned that the same size green one also has an inline filter in the same area. So much for that. Another trick would to be to duct tape a shop vac line to the filler inlet and run the vac when changing the filter. My brother told me about this one when he used it on his combine when changing the charge hose on the hydraulic oil tank.

Shop vacs rarely have a spark-proof electric motor and blasting those vapors with it is hazardous to your health. Beware.

My solution was too relocate the bottom pre lift pump filter. I used a filter housing off a L series. Just use a elbow before the pump and extend the fuel line too the new housing then from the filter back under the tractor to the pump. Built a little bracket to hold filter housing.
