The rubber belting on the front of my bush hog is ripped up,throws way more debris out the front all over me and the tractor. I’ve been thinking about grabbing some used tires from work and cutting them up to fit. I’m thinking they will hold up much better then the original belting (it is a land pride bush hog). Anybody got any thoughts on this or have a better idea?

i would look for conveyor belting. Also, you can buy replacement belting designed for guards at dealer.

Which cutter do you have? Mine has a metal band in front.

It’s a rcr 1860. Only reasons I was thinking about the tire is 1 they are free lol, and 2 I figured with the steel belts in them they would hold up a lot better then the plain rubber likes what’s on it now.

Tire treads would work, would hold up better and, it's been done before.

You may have some trouble with the set curve but you should be able to make them work.

FWIW, I use belting on the front of all or my rough cut mowers (chains on the back) because front chains allow too much debris to be thrown onto me and the back of the tractors. All but one of my mowers are Woods, and I usually end up replacing the front belting on at least one each season.

Have the chains on my Land Pride. Looked at belting and passed. I typically chop hayfields in the spring before first cut and haven't an issue with the chains at all.

My bat wing also has chains, bought it used and abused and the chains were fine,
