My M7040HDC is burning off the coolant pump/AC compressor/cooling fan belt. It will run about 15 minutes then I smell burning rubber, then shortly afterwards, the belt has burned in two. I suspect that it may be the AC compressor locking up. Any ideas? Thanks

maybe this simple test... remove belt, engine OFF !, spin the A/C comp pulley. Is it easy ? good. if not , bad news.

Could be the water pump, idler, or A/C compressor.
Normally The A/C will only effect it when it's running so if it's doing it not running I would be looking at the other 2.

Stay with OEM design….(Part-number interchangeability, V-design, Cog, etc)… And don’t use off-brand V-belts. OEM, NAPA, GATES, GOODYEAR, DAYCO/DAYTON, etc.

It does it when the A/C is running. I feel like it’s the compressor. Next test, leave the A/C off and see what happens.

What’s all that include? If the compressor is locking up you are looking at replacing more then the compressor.

edit nevermind I didn’t read the post correctly. But you still will need more then just a compressor.

Are the aftermarket compressors worth a try? $1,600 plus labor for the dealer to replace.
Has anyone been adding coolant to the AC?
The kits with a can can easily result in an overfilled system.
If you do not know the history of the machine from day one, consider getting a mobile truck mechanic to come and put his gauges on your tractor's AC system before stating to replace parts.
An overfilled system greatly stresses the drive belt.

I have used several aftermarket parts on cars, trucks and tractors over the years and had good luck with them. I stay with the good suppliers, NAPA, Car Quest or Advance Auto parts. Those are good stores in my area.

Find a good honest tractor mechanic and let them quote you the repairs and warranty details. That will give you a choice anyway.

No coolant added since day 1. Bought the tractor new. When the AC clutch engages, the belt burns off, leading me to believe that the compressor is locked up. How would I verify this further?

Take the belt off, turn the key to the ON position (engine OFF), and turn the AC on. If you can not turn the pully, shut the key switch OFF and try to turn the pully. If it now turns, the compressor is locked up.

When compressors lock up they put metal through the system. You're looking at compressor, dryer ,and condenser. Orifice valve if so equipped. Then vacuum and recharge.
