Building a fueling station.

I got a decent 30 gallon drum, a good method for getting it out of my truck once filled. So now....

I need to create a good delivery system. A 12VDC pump and good filter. Links to a quality setup? I'll figure out the plumbing and electrical fine. A switch on the motor would be nice. Fine, high quality filter and water removal. I want the diesel going into to be as clean as possible, Then a good hose and nozzle assy.

I'm not so interested in 'what you did' but what company makes the good parts for me to do my thing.

Any well known transfer pump brand will be good. GPI, fill rite and others.

Harbor freight pump and dolly, filter and housing from tractor supply, old battery from tractor, and a clean drum from washer fluid. Couple months in, probably 200 gallons through it (also feeding a sun fire heater) works well.

Fill-rite nozzle, Goldenrod filters (particulate and water trap), GPI 12v pump. Initially tried it with auto nozzle (despite pump manual saying this was not recommended). It worked 2 or 3 times then quit. Switched to manual fill-rite nozzle as recommended and has worked flawlessly since. Note pic showing hookup to car battery. Will work on PV, charge controller, and battery setup this spring. Setup is on pallet so it can be moved.

I’m building a very similar setup with a steel pallet and a 53 gallon tank. But I’m using a fill rite rotary hand pump with the goldenrod filter.

Do you think that pump will last?
I've seen pricing a of a full fill rite kit being at $700 (ouch) and I'm aiming to be under $300

That pump and what filter setup. I want to catch the finest of particles and all water Double filter is fine.

All my machines have a 20 amp SAE port where I'll be powering the pump.

Slow fill is fine 10 GPM or less should be terrific. I suspect with a fuel can I pour at about 2 gpm.

I guess my definition is great quality, least price, then do it once, do it right.

One other 'Generic question'. Are the filter manifolds the same, meaning you can spin on any brand filter?

It seems this Fill-Rite is the correct choice - Fill-Rite FR1210H @ $570

I'd prefer less GPM I think (what to gas stations pump at???)

I'll have to do a little plumbing to connect to my fuel cart

I have always ran Fill-Rite pumps. I have had excellent service from them one of my pumps has pumped hundreds of thousands gallon of diesel and have never put a vane kit in it. I have friends that have tried the knock of pumps and they just don't hold up. I have always ran a Cim-Tek fuel filter bases as most of the farm stores around here have the filters in stock. I run meters on all my pumps and a auto nozzle also. I think a 15 GPM Fill-Rite would be perfect for you.

We have a GPI 8GPM on a smaller 36? Gallon tank. Got it on sale at north tool I believe.
How much equipment are you filling? Just a BX25?
Don’t forget diesel foams, so the faster it’s pumped into the tank the more it foams up.

I wanted slow fill and opted for a fill rite hand rotary pump. Really, why complicate and spend more for pumping 10-12 gallons? The other thing about the fill rite rotary pump is that you can pump in reverse to drain the hose back into the storage tank when the tractor tank is full.

How much of a PITA is it to manually pump AND watch for the tank to top off? It forces the supply tank to be right next to the machines fill. This is my driving reason for electric.

Fill-Rite has a 8gpm which should be great for me, they say it is about the same speed as a typical gas station. My normal fill is one to four gallons so slower fill speed and being able to fill right to the neck is optimal.

Hard part might be that my caddy has a pipe welded in and not a bung. I suspect the pipe is metric and metric threaded and I may have to join the pump to the caddy with a nipple and a length of stout rubber hose with clamps.

Yep, and I add a little more, but that’s close enough for me (11 gallons). I put my pallet with the tank on a short wheeled dolly so I can wheel it next to the tractor.

The issues with that is..... getting the fuel up 'on the rack' and having to have clear area to drive any machine that needs access. Hence a caddy on wheels and a pump. I can use my hoist to lift a full caddy out of my pick up and set it on the ground.

I got an email back from Fill-Rite, young lady was clues, talking about 115V pump and sizes of the output. She totally failed to see I wanted DC, and I was talking about diameter and thread pitch of the inlet side. I'll have to call I guess.

Geo, I agree. I don't use much diesel and the tractors are at different locations. I devised a system to pump fuel from the 5 gallon jugs, just didn't want to have to life them to remove fuel.

I had a battery powered (2 D cells) from Harbor Freight pump which did not last long. I removed the discharge from that pump and used it on a 12 Volt I bought. Also used the suction of the HF pump to connect to the 12V pump suction. Made a bracket to hang the pump on any tractor loader arm. Pump has a common connection like used on battery maintainers.

L4240 has a maintainer connection bolted too the battery terminals. I unplug the battery maintainer, plug in the fuel pump (it has an 8' cord with a switch near the pump) and it works excellent

I can take the pump with me to farm to fuel tractors there. I just plug in the short alligator clips to the pump wire and connect to the battery of any tractor.

I don't mind using the 5 gallon containers as long as I don't have to lift them onto the hood of a tractor. I also did not want a larger container of fuel to have to load to fill, much less transport to different locations.
