I have been using the bucket trap with the tin can for years for catching mice.
At camp, they have been working out pretty good. Water in the summer, RV antifreeze in the winter.
I still use the plastic snap traps, set on the floor.... but once they're snapped, its one a done, and not a repeater trap.
( and some weekends , I'll go up to camp, there be 2 -3 in the snap traps, and none in the buckets )
I have been using regular standard peanut butter, just a ring around the middle.
This past weekend, the peanut butter was getting moldy.
I seen mold before and would just scrape it off and re-apply. But just wondering if there is anything better then peanut butter as a bait..?
I got suckered in on one of those Facebook ads for the new kind of flip top bucket trap. See those black ones.
I got em off of e-bay , 2 for $16, just set them up last weekend, put peanut butter on the underside of the nose with some sunflower seeds pressed into the peanut butter.
Have to see how they worked this weekend.

Should i stick with peanut butter..?? ... or try a different bait..? O a different style trap..?

I mount the can so it is vertical with the bottom dished end facing up. Never used anything but peanut butter since it works so well

In picture #2, get rid of that can and use an alum beer or soda can and use peanut butter. That's all I use, same set up with bucket and walkway to the can!

When we had no peanut-butter... my wife suggested using a chocolate candy-bar. The chocolate worked fine too.

She got the idea because we had a wrapped candy-bar disappear from the kitchen table.... days later, we found the wrapper across the room under the refrigerator. We KNEW the critters in the house had a taste for chocolate.

Ours is a 130+ year old farmhouse with dry-stacked fieldstone foundation. Basement has dirt-floor. There are many ways for critters to get in... and they do every fall when it starts to get cold outside.

Rolling Log Mouse Trap Rat Bucket Trap Humane Catch or Kill Spinning Roller Trap (ebay.com)

This is what I use and it works flawless but not with out some trial and error on my part. Mice were way smarter then me. I would put peanut butter all the way around it just like you did and the peanut butter would be gone and no mice in the bucket. They were able to spin that roller while on it and bring the peanut butter right to them and walk off. Now I put one glob on it and spin it on the underside facing the water, when they stick there head off center to reach it it's game over. It's too heavy for them to spin when there's a glob on one side. Long rant I know.....My opinion is peanut butter is irresistable.

I use the mouse blocker pro. I have it plugged into my camper which lives in an open ended metal garage adjacent to the mancave. I haven't seen signs of mice in the camper since I plugged it in a few years ago, and no evidence of them in the mancave.

Godiva and Ghirardelli gourmet brands are most favored. (Don’t want to poison the little guys with moldy bait…. bad for their health.)

Try Nutella hazelnut spread. Cheap, and very sticky.

I used the bucket trap in our Chicken coop...One year we got +20, never had them eat electrical wiring! But they would chew into plywood and make nest. It was the insulation that i had to remove.
Next year we got cats problem solved. I tried many traps and d-con which they used to made nest?

Thanks, I was curious if those actually worked. My question is: what does the pro version have that the regular mouse blocker version doesn't?

What it had is that it was on sale with free shipping and the regular was not. You can get other sonic versions, but a few years ago when I was looking at them, that brand was supposedly the best. Thy make them to hook up to a battery (car, tractor, etc.) but I wanted the regular 120 plug in type. Every spring I'd clean out the trailer and find mice droppings and nesting. Literally no evidence of mice since I plugged that in 2 years ago.

Freeheeler... our camp is off grid, no electric during the week. generator on the weekends.
From last Saturday to this past Saturday , got 3 , snap traps were all snapped, none in them.
Thru them in the woods and re-baited all buckets and snap traps with fresh regular peanut butter.
I gotta cook up some bacon to get the grease, to give that a try.
