BH77 Boom to Dipper Pin

My LX2610 with the hoe exceeded my expectations so far, except that while greasing all the fittings during the 50 hour oil & filter change, I noticed the pin that connects the boom to dipper had come out to one side about an inch. On the empty side the pin appears to be wedged into the boom.

Question: Is this something I can repair or take it to the dealer?

Can you just lower the bucket to the ground to get the pressure off the pin a little to get it back in place then find a bolt to put through it?

Simple fix.

There should be a bolt with a locking nut through the two holes and the pin

You can tap that pin back into place and put a bolt with locking nut on it.
Nut and bolt should not be tight.

The pin is jammed in there pretty tight. I did relieve pressure by lowering the boom, with no effect. I tapped on it with a 3 pound hammer (and block of wood) and am concerned the inner race of the boom could be damaged, or the pin broken if I have to get the sledge out.

Yes, and I am not sure if your bucket has QA but if you have that removeable bottom pin with a flimsy lynch pin holding it in go ahead and get a bolt and lock nut for it while you are at it. I lost about 5 lynch pins before I wised up!

There isn't so much weight on the pin that would prevent hammering it out. Use a punch or rod that is nearly as large as the pin so that there will be no problem aligning the holes when installing the pin. There is only a simple steel bushing in the arm. I would punch out the pin whichever way it goes the easiest, then check the pin for straightness. If you find a bend, replace the pin and bushing. A new bushing can be drawn in using a large bolt with nut and washers.

Gently lightly rapping the pin while simultaneously working the boom (with the bucket sort of on the ground) should find the sweet spot where the pivot is unloaded and the pin can slide right back in.
If it is not greased, you might want to do that first.
You will also probably want to press it out the other side far enough so the hole drilled through for the fixing bolt is visible. A long punch inserted through the hole in the pin, rotate to ensure the holes in the boom can align and tap the pin back.
The bolt that 'fixes' it should have a Nylock nut and a few MM of space (not tight as mentioned above)

So last night I pressed it back in place using an old gear puller.

This morning I bought a bolt to replace the one that fell out and tried to grease the pin, but it would not take grease. Upon examining the space in the joint between the boom and dipper, it appears there was never any grease applied, or at least never any that made it far enough to do any good.

Looks like I should pull the pin anyway and check to see if it's bent or scored up.

That is what I was trying to say. While apart, check that grease goes in, Kubota is good at clogging grease fittings with paint and making or using bad pins. My BH70 was a disaster, you need to check and question everything little thing. My backhoe was screwed with by two different dealers, I shouldn’t have wasted my time with them.

I feel you, man! My dealer was less fun than a broken leg. At least a leg heals after 6 weeks.

Used a 3/4" pipe to knock out the pin, cleaned the carbon off with an emery paper, pushed a wire down the journal, cleaned out the grease fitting, and it slid back into place nicely. Took grease normally and now I can level out a place for a shop slab and dig the footings.

You need to take it apart, check the fit and do it right. If you use a smaller pin or pipe to knock out the pin it isn't a bad job. Just leave the smaller pin in the hole to keep the dipper in place while you work.

The cause is likely lack of lubrication and the bolt is gone because it was sheared off And yes you need to fix it before it causes damage. Drive it out, fix any problems with the zerk and drilled passages, and reinstall or replace as appropriate.

Lube well and prosper.
