Lil Foot and I have been having a discussion about the throttle lever on our B7100's - this started a couple of years ago and he suggestion we ask all of you.

When you shut off your B7100 ( or B6100 - B5100 - or any of those that require the handle to be pulled down towards you) and the engine dies....

DOES the lever stay DOWN or due to the spring on the linkage ...

DOES it snap back to the "idle" speed ready to start again....

The first one I bought would stay down - which seems correct, well at least at the time...

The second one I bought it would snap back to the more or less vertical spot ... this ready to start again without touching it.....

The 3rd one stays put....

SO - what does yours do ?

Mine springs back to more or less a Idle position. When I start from a cold tractor I bump up the throttle slightly from the Idle position. Mine is a late model (1997) HST

OK, now I'm totally confused. :confused:
On mine, and others I have seen or driven, you pull the throttle lever towards you to increase speed & push forward to decrease speed. To shut down, you push the throttle lever forward to idle speed, (as in pic) then pull the "trigger" (yellow arrow) upward to kill the engine.

Does the other style only come with the HST? (mine is gear drive)

Does everyone have a foot accelerator also? Or is it only on gear drives?

My B7100 New Type, throttle forward increases RPMs, rearward to idle. If you pull rearward against the spring, that is the Kill position, throttle lever stays in OFF position.
Only the gear drive units have a foot throttle on any Kubota tractor.
Only a gear drive B7100 has the little separate lever to kill the engine.
If you go to the Kubota Illustrated Parts lookup, the throttle is shown in the "Fuel Tank" section and it shows each style.

with a simple question - I just learned a butt load!!!!

I betcha as the early ones came out, the forward off, flick the lever up to kill the engine was replaced with pull it down- hold and you get two-for-one.

I think that the spring on the shaft is designed to bring the lever BACK to a starting position on it's own.
Despite the fact that most of our models are sticking in the lower position.

I greased the hell out of my newest one - and it does want to spring back to the idle position after letting go, the only problem that I find is you need to hold it "off" for a good second or two, otherwise she will run back up.

The info on the geared is something I had no idea about. Thanks for that info!

I still want to copy LiL Foots brake holder, that is slick as eel sht.....
even that is slightly different on the "newer" models.

Makes sense (now that I think about it) that the HST doesn't need a foot throttle.
This is such a great forum! You learn stuff you never set out to learn. :)

My throttle comes back to shut down and stays put. My parking brake is Hokie's style (1/4" rod slightly off the floorboard). And the parking brake mod is great -- except I keep reaching down out of habit because I forgot I installed the mod...

Mine is a 94 HST 4wd model.

A couple of years ago I was heading to the farm and my wife wanted to mow the back 3 acres. We use the B7100 for that area. So I checked the fuel, etc and got it started and her on it. We don't use it very much maybe 5-10 hours a year. I had been busy working on something when I came to the truck to get a sandwich. I had a VM from my wife asking how to turn off the tractor. When I called her, she said she was done but couldn't figure out how to turn it off, so it was setting out by the barn idling!

It took me a while to remember how to shut if off also. Too many machines!!

On both of mine it was a pull back against a spring that returns it to idle / run after you let go.

Mine will stay down but if I tap on it lightly, it will go back to idle.. i don't think the spring is original though.. i believe it to be a 1985, with at least 2150 hours

I got to wondering why NIH's '94 would spring back, but my '94 HST does not (and never did -- it's been in the family since new). So I had a look this afternoon. Lo and behold: the friction is adjustable, via a double nut and wave washer on the lever pivot:



I don't recall seeing any mention of this adjustment in either the Owner's manual or WSM, but it can be set loose enough for the lever to spring forward or slightly tighter to hold in the off position.
