My B7000 has only a hand throttle.

The throttle won't stay in the position it's set to, instead it reverts back to idle if I let it go.

The throttle lever pivots on a fixed rod with a washer and split pin holding it in place, so I can't adjust the tension at this point unless I add a fibrous washer of some sort.

I traced the control rod through and it's bolted to the top of some part of the engine. I tried tightening the bolt, but didn't try very hard because it looks like it's attached to an expensive part and I really didn't want to snap the bolt off.

Is it standard for this throttle to revert to idle when released or is this one worn ?

Any suggested fix ?

Thank you

I'm not 100% sure as I don't have a lot of experience with the Grey's, But I think this is what needs to be done.

Now in pure redneck fashion, i would grind off that stud, replace with an appropriate size bolt and heavy spring. A couple washers and a locking nut. Permanent fix. Or find a parts manual and replace worn parts, as mentioned , likely wavey washer. Must have worn out and fallen out.

The hand throttle must stay in place.
Can you plz put a picture from the side of it.
you problem is at the hand throttle it self and a spring that must me there..
it must be at the end of the rod with a washer to stop it from go inside of the level bracket and a stopper so you can adjust it.

look at this photos.

edit:
now i see that you have that spring, its at you third picture,
so try to adjust it better so that spring keeps the tension of the hand throttle.

Never had a problem with mine. Your throttle looks a bit different from my B7000. I'll post some pics as soon as I find the cord for my new camera!

My redneck solution to this problem, on my L2202, was to disconnect the worthless hand throttle, and attach a vernier throttle control cable directly to the injection pump. I had to fab up a metal bracket to the left side of the sheet metal, near the fuel tank, and make a connector to the injector pump, but dammit, if I set that cable at 2200 RPM, that's where it stays... Cost of a 6' vernier throttle cable was about $50, from amazon...:D

I think, in this instance, I would do the same thing. Maybe a couple of nylon washers, and a nylon locknut, too

That spring is to set the idle, not the tension at the throttle. When you push the throttle, it will kill the engine, and then it just backs to idle position.

A ok, Thanks for the info... :) i thought it was for the tension at the handle.

In your picture #2 is the solution.
There is a double nut.
Loosen top one, tighten one underneath.
Had same problem. Test as you go, I set mine to tight and had to go back at it.
One of the easier problems to remedy.

If tomcat could show a view of top pivot, it should show some sort of tension washer.....
Its possible there is a friction setting on injector pump. Dont get carried away, a little at a time.
My l1501 was gummed up, wouldnt idle down. Just te opposite of your problem. Kinda.
