I need to get it off to replace the steering column boot. Got the nut off easily but it's stubborn! Am I need going to need a wheel puller or should I keep trying to (gently) beat it off?

Welcome to the OTT site Utah Bob. You have come to the right place to get answers.

Using a wheel puller is always the best way. Did you spray some Liquid Wrench or something similar?

Put the nut loosely back on the shaft to keep the steering wheel from letting go and shooting off, if you are pulling on it.

On my old L185 it is a tapered shaft with a key. Soaking it with PB Blaster and pulling up on steering wheel got it off. I think I would sit on the seat and use my legs to push it up and also pull up with hands. It let go quickly and I was glad to have the nut stop it instead of face or other body parts.

A wheel puller would not work well on mine, the plastic extended beyond the metal center and would have cracked with a puller

Where UDT works well for a lot of situations, I don't think this is one of them. [emoji3]
I think you meant to type Nut. ;)

Yes nut not UDT. Thanks for pointing it out - corrected original post

Well, a properly trained UDT guy could get it off in a second with the tasteful application of high explosives...but I let Liquid Wrench work on it overnight and with a moderate amount of yanking and tapping I got it off. Thanks guys. ;)
