The coupling were out on the little B2620 and instead of splitting the tractor i turned the shaft down to the same size as the base of the splines about an inch back to allow the coupling to slide back and install shaft without splitting the tractor. worked perfectly and saved me so much time.

I cut the old shaft out and put the new one in the lathe and took off some material so coupling would slide back far enough to insert shaft and then slide couplings onto tractor .

I think that you might want to add a shaft collar (with set screws) behind the coupler to stop the coupler from coming loose if the retaining pin sheared off. That shaft could whip around and tear up the tractor if the rear end fell off. Probably a belts and suspenders idea but easy to do.
