B or BX Pre-Emissions Models

I'm looking at a few used B and BX tractors, such as B2320, BX2360, etc. I see a 2008 B2320, and the seller says 'pre-emissions'. I'm generally aware that EPA has been making emission standards more stringent over the years. What do you suppose 'pre-emissions' means?

All other things being equal, I'd lean toward a tractor with fewer electronic engine controls than more. Can someone summarize when Kubota started adding electronic engine controls to the under-25 HP B and BX tractors?

All BX models and B2650 and smaller are exempt.

I thought that the cut off was 26 HP. In the B'50 and the now LX series only the B2650 and LX2610 are non DPF. Anything larger (B3350, LX3310 etc) have dpf systems.

OP- the only model to run away from in the larger B'50 series is the B3350. Don't even look at one. I've also heard some recent rumblings about the LX3310. Others that have them can/will chime in.

Edit: Note that there are two sizes (frame sizes) in the older B series. I'm referring to the larger '50 series which is now the "LX" series.

I pulled this chart from the EPA website which is the final tier 4 rules for non road diesel engines and the first year for compliance.

To say a non-road diesel engine under 25hp is exempt is probably a poor choice of words In my opinion. Under 25 hp still must meet an emission standard under tier 4 rules but has a much lower standard as to not require a DPF etc. The tier 4 rule for under 25hp was first implemented in 2008 so I am assuming this is why the seller in question stated his B2320 is “pre emissions”.


25 Hp to 75 Hp has a 2013 first year which jives with my memory of seeing Kubota tractors with particulate filters and associate electronic sensors and controls.

I can not speak to all under 25hp Kubota engines but I believe my L2501 is a non -common rail direct injection with all mechanical lift pump and injection.

FWIW, the B3350 is the only so-called "emissions" tractor with a lifetime "emissions" warranty.

In a nutshell if it's under 25hp (19Kw) it's non-computer mechanical injection.

There's lots of stories on what an EMP will do. Arguably anything electrical will fry, including just the basic ignition on a tractor. I personally doubt it, I think most things would work. But if there's an EMP, we're all screwed anyway. I generally don't plan my life for that. Zombie apocalypse, however, now that's a thing we could plan for, and a tractor seems essential.

I think I'd want a cab on my tractor too. And definitely at least a 3 range gearbox - I need to know it can outrun a zombie.

It's not "if", its "when".... Coronal Mass Ejections (CME's) are unpredictable, but they happen all the time.

I won't even mention the "man made" EMP's.....
