Thanks for your comments. It has helped to just talk about the crazy things they have done in the past.. Starr, the yellow lab we lost 3 years ago would get so excited when I said "let's go ride", that she and Lucy would head for the door and Starr would be biteing on Lucy's leg. I kn ow it will get better but for now, my soul aches.

Jack will start talking to me when I clip his leash on him. He does this Howl/growl thing when he starts losing patience. If I take my sweet time, he'll progress to looking mad and barking. Zeus will grab his leash and walk himself to the door. If I'm not there in a timely manner, he comes and finds me. Then escorts me to the door. If jack has progressed to his barking, then Zeus will start yipping. They can get pretty demanding Then if I pull into the vets parking lot instead of taking them to my in laws, Jacks ears will lay flat, and give me his "eat poo and die" look. Jack likes to ride on the center console of the truck. Will sit there and look as proud as can be. If you take a road with a lot of curves, he will stand up and start leaning into the turns

Fury loves riding with me. But such a hairball, i cant take her in my latest truck-cloth interior.
Likes the shop, but with people coming and going she will bolt the firs chance she gets. Always been a runner.
Going to put a long chain near overhead door, so in and out can be her choice.

Well, my wife sent me this picture today. She got us a little female German Shepard pup. We pick her up on the 22.

I know..., right Hopefully it's not part Clydesdale The boys will be upset for a couple days, but after that they will be fine. Jack might poo in Beth's slippers, so she's gonna have to make sure and keep them picked up We dog sit occasionally for friends and relatives so they are used to having other ones here on occasion.

Zeus was tormented by a large breed male dog for bit. So he turns into an ankle biter (literally) if it's a male. He won't growl or bark. Just walks up behind the dog, gives a quick sniff to find the sweet spot. And just latches on

He gets along with large breed females fine. Neighbors husky used to let herself in the yard for play dates And it will give Zeus a playmate. Jack might get a little more active. Right now he sleeps most of the time. Course with him being 14, he's slowing down pretty good.

My wife says awwwwww. Cute. I like puppies.
But then they turn into crazy 100 lb poo machines.
I never end up with a laid back dog, they always want to run off somewhere. Or bail out of a moving vehicle.

Frank, we always end up with Crack heads, goof balls, or nuts for dogs Our jack Russell is a prima dogga, and the neighbors husky taught him to talk. Only does it though if he's on the wrong side of the fence, or I haven't made it to the treat door quick enough for him when I get home He gets a little demanding sometimes. The dachshund is a bully, hunter, and kissy monster.We're hoping jack will teach the puppy to talk. Wife said the puppy was making little noises when she was petting her, kinda like jack when he talks so we'll have to wait and see if we can expand on it We actually got two pups. We bought her brother for our daughter for her birthday.

Everyone please give Vixen (The Wolf) a prayer, or thought!
She's had a huge mishap, last week she started to walk a little stiff and funny, we kept taking her to the vet and they were coming up blank with what exactly was going on with her, tried meds and lots of rest, nothing was snapping her out of it, Well this morning she went from Ok, to bad, to real bad, she couldn't stand or walk at all within an hour.
In the truck we went and hauled butt to the vet, quick check by them showed it was a neurological issue, needed better help, then another super fast 2 hour trip to WSU veterinary teaching hospital in Washington, initial test is that she has an issue with her spine somewhere in here shoulder area, most likely cause is ruptured disk, or meningitis, both scary but treatable, the third option is also possibly treatable but super scary is a tumor.
They admitted her did full blood work up, X-rays and are giving her IV pain meds, anti inflammatory meds, fluids and care.
Monday is: Sedated MRI, Tuesday is Surgery.
WSU is 3+ hours away and we will be going back and forth for as long as it takes to get her better!

Of course my worried wish for the best for Vixen. My wife worked 20 years at the vet teaching hospital here in Eastern Canada. When you go to a teaching facility you have access to the best of the best. Best of luck to all.

Why is it, that if you hear about a person suffering something along those lines, we say well wish you the best and then forget about it. But let something like this happen to your dog,cat horse or in this case wolf, we seem to reflect so much more on the person and critter involved. Yeah maybe its because when shyt goes down hill those critters are the ones that stand beside us no matter what. Best to the pup there woldman

Argh NIW, I hope she will be well soon. She is a special wolf and part of your family.

FWIW, when you visit her go over her with a fine toothed comb, maybe figuratively, to look for a tick hidden somewhere, maybe inside an ear. One virulent tick can bring down a horse with tick paralysis. Some ticks secrete more of a toxin when they bite than others, and there are colonies in that mountain range that are highy virulent. (Researcher in Lethbridge.) Little late in the year, but you guys have had such funny weather maybe there were two generations. In humans they have found the tick with the MRI on one occasion!

I had a dog that had similar symptoms years ago, and gradually she got better, steroids and supportive nursing, took some months before she was completely normal, but she was able to come home in about a week. They never found the tick, but that was what they thought it was.

I'll have my fingers crossed...keep us posted.

Those of us who really understand our pets, especially dogs, know they would give all for us. Most of us would do the same in return. How lucky Vixen is to have been in your household these years -and how lucky you are to have her.

No that is something else, also not good. There are a bunch of diseases that ticks can carry and are transmitted in the bite, but what I am talking about is a toxin that is in the saliva of the tick. Many species have some toxin, but not every tick has enough to paralyze with one bite. Females just prior to laying eggs are the worst, but even nymphs have some. Cattle turned out on the range in late spring can be infested with a bunch of ticks and die. Tim Lissyk in Lethbridge studies this and has collected virulent ones nearby.

Tick paralysis is the name. I should have some references somewhere, went to Lethbridge to work with Tim some years ago.
