Was at the local scrapper to buy some steel for a project. Noticed this bucket on a pile of junk steel about 10' off the scale lane. Looked at it and couldn't see why it was in that pile. After crawling in/over to get a better look, noticed the tabs for the locking pin of the quick attach were bent to smithereens. I though it was a 5' bucket so wasn't real interested, but remember the Kubota number. Well, after seeing what it fit and realizing it was 6' I went back and bought it.

My question is how are those pin locks bent up so bad? The bucket has zero paint missing anywhere on it, including the cutting edge. Paint is faded some.

No idea how they got bent, but you have to realize there are folks that could F up an anvil with a rubber mallet.

The bucket has zero paint missing anywhere on it, including the cutting edge. Paint is faded some.

Shipping damage? And just tossed to the side after claim paid?

Wouldn’t a back dragging event cause the bends to be in the opposite direction? And if it were used wouldn’t one expect paint damage to the cutting edge?

Didn't have the SSQA adjusted correctly, or half disengaged. Then either backdragging or jerking on something, or something jerking on it (maybe the tractor was stuck or something).

It's fixable.

Let us see when you address the bent areas if you don't mind - might come in handy for anyone who might have done the same.

My idea was to bend the metal back into place and weld it there. Then add a piece on the backside to overlap and reinforce the whole shebang. That worked fine on the right side, but on the left side the bent piece broke off while hammering it. So I laid a new piece of 1/4" bar in the gap and welded it, then added the piece on the back.

When I went to move the bucket I just left it on the tractor. Used it yesterday to clear the driveway of snow.

Here's some pictures to show the wear on the bucket! First picture shows the under neath of the bucket with the cutting edge. No paint missing. Second picture shows the inside and one end. No paint missing.

I agree with Fordtech86 in post #8. Absolutely no paint scraped or wore off of bottom, sides or inside. Shipping damage, insurance claim, scrap yard.

Len - - irrespective of the cause, you got yourself a nice, new bucket!

Ford's theory does sound plausible. Betting you guys are right, or darned close.

RCW thanks. It is the exact same bucket I had/have on my tractor so I really don't need it, but I couldn't let it go to the crusher! A simple project and easy to fix. Maybe I'll have one bucket with a tooth bar and one without.

That’s what I would do. Slap a piranha tooth on one for digging. Don’t always need it. Congrats!
