I just bought a new M7040. Kubota sez to use ultra low sulpher diesel in it. I have been doing that. At 50 hours the oil was still clear. Changed according to maintenance chart. Now have 97 hours on it and new oil is still so clear hard to tell level on dip stick. Kubota also sez to change filter and oil 50% sooner if using off road diesel. Dunno what all this means, but I plan to change oil every fall, especially if soot buildup in oil turns out to be as good, {less} as it seems like it will be.I like Amsoil --- use it my cars and my truck. But, I like to change the oil in my tractor fairly frequently -- I just can't stand that crappy looking diesel oil. So, I don't use it in my tractor because it would just be too expensive without any benefit for me.
So just do you call cold? I mean really what is cold in GeorgiaThe best mpg I ever got was using the 5w30 HDD. My brother used the 15w40 in his Dodge and loved it. I'm using the 10w30 diesel oil right now but it did cut into my mpg some. It works out about the same in savings due to the difference in oil cost though. For overall use I prefer the 5w30. I can tell the biggest difference in how my tractors start during cold weather. Can't tell much with my truck because I will plug it up when it's cold. If you have any questions feel free to ask and I'll do my best to help out.
