Hello all,
I’ve been looking at filter prices for an upcoming service and noticed one of the hydraulic filters for my L 3301HST is $46. P/N is HH3A0-82623.
The Wix equivalent filter WL10043 is half that price at O’Reillys. Anyone have any experience, good or bad, with Wix filters? I’ve never used them.
Thanks
Steve

I'm one that figures I spent this much money on the tractor, I will use factor filters to make sure I don't do anything to potential cause warranty issues.

Early on, two things I decided to keep OEM are filters and SUDT2 fluid.
I think you'll find quite a few members feel the same way.
No experience with Wix either, but for the $20+ difference I wouldn't try find out on my tractor that cost 10's of thousands of dollars.

Trust me, not talking-down your research at all, but there's a few places with these modern, close-tolerance machines you don't skimp.

All the above. Kubota OEM filters are made exactly to their specifications. Why chance it for a couple bucks.

My opinion is, using aftermarket filters is penny wise, pound foolish.

If I had HST tractors, I'd be using SUDT as well. I don't so I use aftermarket fluid but the stuff I use (Chevron THC All weather synthetic) is actually a bit more expensive that SUDT is.

You can do as you wish, after all, it's yours but if you have an issue down the road, don't whine about it.

I've used Wix filters on all most every thing I've ever owned and they worked great, except on any Hyd. system, why risk it for a couple of$.

I’ve been using Wix on everything I own for over 27 years. I never had a issue with them. IMO Wix is top of the line in filters.

(I can’t resist this ...). Flip, if that aftermarket stuff doesn’t do everything that Kubota fluid is designed for .... it certainly WILL BE A. BIT MORE EXPENSIVE than that SUDT is! LOLOL

I am a pretty big WIX/NAPA Gold fan myself, and use them pretty extensively in everything I own engine-wise. However, in both my GR2010 and my BX2380's transmissions, I have always stuck to Kubota filters and SUDT.

It costs a few bucks more this way, but it is not changed as frequently as engine oil so to me the few bucks doesn't really matter.

Might cost more because it's orange of all things.....

Been using if or 15 years now. Was a bit less expensive in prior years than it is now. Besides, it gets delivered to the farm.

100% not worth any savings on HST aftermarket filters! ;)
If it's under warranty having an aftermarket filters would be a big reason for them to deny any claim for any system issues!

I use aftermarket engine oil and fuel filters, but only oem hydraulic and transmission filters. The one time I tried an aftermarket transmission filter on one of my ZD mowers I got burned.

Wix makes good filters. A hydraulic filter is an oil filter - same components, same construction.

All of the NAPA line of filters are made by Wix, as are a handful of other brands. You won't go wrong with them.

I agree, Wix makes good filters. I use them on various pieces of equipment, but putting a hyd filter on an 8 HP log splitter engine is a tad different cost wise if something fails then a Kubota tractor system.

It's interesting folks want to take a cost savings product to put on an expensive piece of equipment. They save $20 perhaps. But if they go out for pizza and a beer, they have to have the best.

Treat your hydraulic system to the best filter. You only change it every couple hundred hours!

I believe Wix makes most of the filters for NAPA and both are quite good filters. Many aftermarket filter brands, in order to be inexpensive (their major attraction to purchasers) use standardized internal elements which can fit inside various sized “cans” which outwardly appear to be similar to OEM filters. In other words, to keep costs down, a smaller paper-element is mfr’d to be used in various-sized cans. This means that aftermarket filters with large cans but small elements can resemble OEM filters with large amounts of media.... but sell for less.

The same is true of other internal components such as springs, anti-back-flow valves, seals, gaskets, and even the cans themselves may be cheaply crimped or thinly stamped and unable to withstand higher pressures or impacts.

Wix/NAPA are better than the cheaper brands, and there are some good Puro/Purolator filters (who, by the way, make WalMart’s “SuperTech” filters.).

While I would not pay for the inordinately-priced Mobil 1, Bosch, etc., .... I also do not fall for the high-priced/low-filtration (in order to claim better machine-performance or to allow “re-useability”) of the K & N models.

Unless you’re willing to accept the risks of lower quality along with the lower prices.... or unless you’re the believer of hyper-advertising for “designer” products.... the solid solution for owners who want to take care of their equipment without worry is to buy the OEM filters and fluids.

I admit however, on less valuable or less important equipment I frequently use aftermarket filters,... and example is my 1986 Ferguson compactor-Roller for which “Ferguson” does not make OEM filters. They re-sell other mfr’s filters painted with the Ferguson PN on them. I use the NAPA or LuberFiner equivalent and have had good results. My Sears lawn-tractor uses SuperTech rather than the “official” Craftsman-brand (which I darn well know Sears does not actually have produced by any high-quality filter mfr’r.... as I’ve cut them open and found cheap, stamped, flat-sheet-metal springs and undersized elements.)

If you’re not as ADHD as me.... then your best solution is OEM filters, and at least the Kubota filters are not overpriced.

Watch the Messicks video I posted. Maybe NAPA used to be good. The filters look like chincy crap now.

I wouldn't put one in my lawn mower.

That’s a common concern, but Kubota would have to prove it was the aftermarket filter which caused the damage ...not a likely scenario...especially as the aftermarket folks go to some lengths to make certain their claims that they “meet OEM warranty requirements” do not increase their liability.

ON the other hand, if the warranty-ing Kubota dealer DID have reason to believe the aftermarket filter contributed (perhaps due to a suspect out-of-tolerance By-Pass valve which passed-thru harmful material) they might raise the ugly specter and the OWNER would have to hire lawyers, technicians, and laboratory-specialists to argue in Owner’s favor. Who can afford THAT?

Simple solution = Kubota filters.

In NH, that would be illegal. A manufacturer is not allowed to limit warranty service based on perishable/service items in an assembly. Most of the verbiage is based on automobiles but it applies to any assembly with perishable/service parts. I love our RSA system of law here.

Check your state - YMMV.

One great thing about our state is we are never on the list of states that can't have it! Like MA, NY, NJ, CA etc. Well that and no state income tax and no state sales tax.
