well, i took delivery of my CID grapple and went to hook it us just to find that my tractor has agricultural hydraulic fittings on the 3rd function and the grapple has skid steer fittings. I'm not sure what other implements I am likely to use that would require the 3rd function so would I be better off changing the tractor over to skid steer hydraulic fittings or should I change the grapple?

Thanks!

I believe the fittings on your tractor are called Pioneer fittings. Whoever you ordered the Grapple from should have asked which fittings you preferred and should have provided those fittings.

As to which fitting to use, it is owners choice.

With my arthritic hands, the Pioneer fittings seem to work best for me.
I changed my grapple from flat faced to Pioneer fittings, and gave my flat faced ones to a very pleased neighbor.

What size are the pioneer male threads? They are much larger than 1/2 NPT and physically measure 13/16” overall thread diameter.

Could be many things other than NPT. 13/16 is suggestive of 1/2" BSPT which is a common fitting on Kubota tractors.

The picture shows part number 4AGF4-PV which is a Dixon coupler. If you get the full part number off the coupler it will tell you the thread type and size.

EDIT

According to the Dixon catalog 4AGF4-PV is a 1/2" body size ISO 5675 poppet valve coupler with 1/2" NPT female threads.

Congrats. I’ve got a CID grapple as well. My vendor asked me which fittings I wanted. I went with Agg/Pioneer style. One female, one male, so the grapple will always function the same way with the joy stick.

I’ve got flat face couplers on my little B. They just don’t inspire confidence with me. But lots of folks use them without trouble.

Thx folks. I’ll probably need to talk to the vendor too, maybe it is easier to have them send me compatible fittings for the grapple and I’ll just punt on future compatibility for future implements.

To match your tractor the grapple needs 1/2" ISO 5675 couplers - aka Pioneer style. Is the tractor side all female or one female and one male? Do you know the thread size and type of the ends on the grapple hoses?

Dan, the fittings on the tractor side are both female. The thread diameter is quite large; around 13/16”

The picture shows one male plug and one female socket.

The part number on the female socket identifies it as a Dixon coupler with 1/2" NPT female threads. The OD of a 1/2" pipe is .840 and at the base end of a NPT male thread it is just under 13/16.

Which leaves us with the grapple side. Whats the part number stamped on them?

Here is a Dixon coupler just like the one on your tractor. You just need to know what the thread size is on the grapple

Grapple side is 1/2 SAE 90-L22.

I ordered some flat face connectors with the plan to install them on the tractor side but the thread dia on them are too small to go on to that 13/16”

I also have arthritis in my hands, and find that the flat-faced coupler is easier to work. I marked the coupler where the ring has to be for releasing, just turn it to the proper location and lift the ring while pushing on the other end of the coupler and they popped apart with ease. Much easier for me than the Pioneer couplers that I had on my BX22

Lools like your grapple couplers have 1/2" SAE ORB threads. The femsle thread size in those ports is 3/4-16 UNF and I m going to guess there is an SAE to IIC adapter used for connecting the hoses. Pictures help reduce the guessing.

In any event this coupler should convert the grapple to AG couplers that match the tractor side.

No sleeve - one hand push pull operation.
