Ads are everywhere now. It's ingrained in our life with seemingly no end in sight, surely to get worse.
When I buy stuff @ homedepot, even the cash register (self checkout) asks me if I want an emailed receipt.
If I say yes, I am sure to get more ads in my email.

If the wife uses a coupon @ Michaels, more emailed ads.

If I watch youtube videos, signed into an account, at least I can tell (from your feedback from friends in the USA), I am getting bombarded with ads
on Edd China's channel, whereas on other channels , hardly a one.

On sidewalks, ads. When I wait in line @ Tim Hortons drivethru for coffee, there are literally dozens and dozens of ads 1'x2' panels(ads), ty-wrapped to the chain link fences, even in small towns/villages. (Tim Hortons are everywhere here, like Dunkin; Donuts/Starbucks)

On the sides (and inside) of city buses....ads.

Topsigns on taxis. (not new, but more prevalent these days)

Rotating LED/LCD signs on top of buildings or billboards on the side of the highway.

In the future will it only get worse? Maybe we'll have even more ads covering up the bottom of our TV screens when we're watching shows or movies, missing part of the details. (I hate this when I am watching a murder mystery type of show, where I want to see all the details)

At some point, our heads-up displays in modern cars will broadcast ads in our field of view on the inside of our windshields.

There will be holographic ads as we wander the street. (even see WALL-E or the Fifth Element?) Some of these ads will (somehow) identify us and project ads in the air for products they think will interest us. (Ever look on eBay or Amazon and get an email the next day suggesting something you should buy?)

I bought a dishwasher a couple years ago and get targeted ads to my cell phone now from that local business which I can't seem to stop.

Even the political parties TEXT us before every election. Sometimes late at night-grrrr

What bugs you guys and how far do you think it will go? I've only scratched the surface.

Sign, sign
Everywhere a sign
Blockin' out the scenery
Breakin' my mind
Do this, don't do that
Can't you read the sign?

I control what I can, use ad blocker for iPad and “X” out irrelevant ads on Facebook so at least the ads I’m forced to see are somewhat interesting.... oh in town, when contractors place those little 2’x3’ plastic advertising signs with their info on telephone poles or in public property/intersections, yep those get torn down. Don’t try to make my little town look like a dumpy big city!

I had a GPS with live traffic updates that used to run ads. Not heads up display, but in front of the driver. So that's kind of already here.

used to get faxed ads from one company( when faxes were popular ), called the 1-800 number ,said no more please, 3rd time said , eonough is enough' so.... I continuously faxed HIS fax machine..he ran out of $$$$$ paper, he called was 'upset', I said,'sorry, it'll take 3-7 business days for us to update our file, have a nice day'......
never EVER got another fax from his companies
now 4 decades later,it's just as easy, have a dedicated PC,send zillions of emails to idiots who won't 'unsubscribe' me..
'robocalls' are fun...grab the 1-800 number/website, find their 'contact info' then 'blast' them... Since the Feds won't do anything, we need to.

There have been several occasions now that i have talked about specific things with friends or coworkers then that day or the next something similar gets "suggested" to me in youtube or ads on ebay etc. They are listening. Figure its google listening through my phone

When I bought my pickup truck back in '05, I told the salesman that when I came to pick it up, there had better not be a dealer decal on it, because if there was, the deal was off. I even made him write it on the sales order, so there was no misunderstanding about it. He asked me why. I told him I'm glad to buy a truck for them, but i'll be damned if I'll advertise for them.
Did the same when I bought a used '04 Town Car.

I've been racing my entire adult life so I understand and respect the advertising importance. However, aside from the race car there IS no advertising done on my part, nor are any of my vehicles littered with dealer names. If someone wants to know where to buy, I'll tell them where I will and will NOT buy, simple as that.

And in racing, that's the only way I can afford to do it-advertising. Even then, it's a loss but at least it is less of a loss than being 100% self-funded.

Advertising is big business. Ex girlfriend was sharp with advertising, that's what she did for a living and did a very good job of doing what she did. Very successful. I learned a lot. One thins she mentioned, was that since the usa's manufacturing is going away slowly, we're becoming more of a retail country than a manufacturing country. That means her job (advertising) will get even more important, and more competitive. Interesting thought.

I've done that on every car I've ever purchased. More than once I had to wait at delivery because they 'inadvertently' put it on and had to remove it.

Around here some dealers put those #$~@$S stickers on, but what seems even more common is the license plate brackets with their name smeared all over them...until recently we had two.(front/rear)

I've removed quite a number of them and updated with something either metal, faux chrome or at least more robust than the cheapie ones dealers supply.

While we're on the subject of advertising and cars, there is a used car dealer in a nearby town that has his ads running on the local TV stations. The guy is yelling like a banshee during the whole ad, usually dressed in cheesy suits, hats and even swimming suits that look like they were make from American flags. He also always has some young lady in the ad too, usually aping all his wild arm movements. This crass behavior has nothing to do with patriotism but all about selling cars. His voice is just like nails on a blackboard to me, and I mute the TV when I see him come on. Gawd, I hate those ads.
I wouldn't buy a car from the guy if he was giving them away.

I cut code to have my PC automatically send out 1000s of 'replies' over a 72 hour period. If doing an email, there's the original email, then 100+ BCC: that go with it. Some ISPs won't allow huge numbers of 'direct' emails in a short time, but they do allow large number of CC: and BCC: to be sent. Usually it only takes obe 'massblast' to have them stop
Also to have 'fun', sign them up to other sites to get THEM onto others mailing lists

Those plate brackets are illegal in CT, but they put them on anyway.
