If done properly it shouldn't.

Just sayin, though.

I want a good quality klaxon, ooga horn that will startle the hell out of bears lying low in the tall grass while I'm mowing.. It has happened more than once...

Problem is, good horns are expensive.. Like close to $100 by the time you get it fused, and wired..

I posted a link to a $18-$19 CDN horn (fiamm) earlier in this thread available from princess auto.
A $5.00 switch and $5 worth of wiring and a $5 fuse holder and Bob's yer Mudders Brudder.

I laugh at your $100 ;-)

If you haven't found the perfect horn yet, you might want to check out the "Wolo (419) Bad Boy Air Horn." It's a popular and reliable battery-operated choice for bicycles and small vehicles.

How would hardwiring a horn in cause a dead battery if done properly?
We have all owned MANY cars with hardwired batteries.
Batteries last years.
Horn only loads battery, when horn is sounded.

Stole 1/2 of the horn from Wifey's junk Volvo I keep promising to haul away. Button on dash. We're good.

I discovered the need when we had a work party at the gun club. Plenty of help, but they're all looking in the wrong direction when you need them. I mean, fer Pete's sake. I'm lifting RR ties for THEM to spike together and they are paying attention to the roof crew on the other side of the project.

I see it’s been a while, but I wanted to share my two cents. I'd recommend going with a battery-operated bike horn for simplicity and ease of installation. It's a breeze to set up, and you won't need to mess around with wiring. Plus, you can easily change or replace the batteries. However, if you're looking for something more powerful and versatile, check out the wireless train horn at https://bosshorn.com/products/ryobi-train-horn-quad. I've got one of these for road signaling, and it's super versatile. I've even taken it to football games to support my favorite team and used it at various parties to grab everyone's attention as a surprise effect. It's a blast!

You guys sure are passionate about a very easy to do mod. Batttery powered bike horn? ummm. ok.

I am sure it took me less than one hour to take an old horn from my Harley (but it could've just as easily been a $19.95 FIAMM brand from Princess Auto) and bolt it under the hood near the grill and then drill a hole for a push button and run a couple short wires.

Easy peasy. When I need it, I know I'll have it and not some crusty AA alkaline leaking battery pack on a battery powered bicycle horn or whatever. No offense intended.

If I did a horn on a tractor, it'd be as loud as a train. I'd finally have a use for that 60 gallon air compressor tank, I planned to build a lawn roller with.

I can see me now, a 3pt air tank with a quick attach mounted solid on the back. I could attach all my implements! I would have to make one other mod to the air tank. A 10" diameter piece of pipe through it so I could hook up the PTO for the tiller. 😁

Nope

That application is justified.

I have two beautiful brass tugboat steam whistles.
Need lots of compressed air........ and TIGHT fitting ear muffs!
I have 20cfm @175 psi.

Loaned one to a son, for calling his kids home.
Could only activate for a second or two, due to extreme shrill nature.

The steam horns are SO neat. I recall watching a video of a Pratt & Whitney driving an Air Raid Siren. That thing was LOUDER THAN LOUD.

There's this one too

A few years ago while spending about a month at the coast for work, sharing a 5 bedroom house with co-workers, as part of a series of back and forth practical jokes and everyone generally being intentionally irritating for entertainment purposes because grown men sometimes act like middle school boys when left to their own devices, I bought one of those portable air horn in a can things like pictured. As the person in charge of the operation it seemed appropriate to blow the horn to signal the start and end of the day. It’s Coast Guard approved for vessels up to 60’. I’m not sure what that means other than it’s stupid loud. Even if you’re the one blowing the horn and everyone knows it’s about to blow there’s a involuntary convulsion/jump from everyone nearby when it goes off.

I have put it in the cup holder on the tractor and used it a couple of times when working with a crew on a work day at church where some were clearly experienced working around equipment and others needed a little toot to be reminded leave off picking up twigs for a few seconds to allow me to pick up a tree.

I have no idea how long they last, but it’s highly effective and satisfyingly annoying to everyone within a few hundred yards.

Same here. Doesn't take any real effort or time. I found a mounting spot for the horn close to the battery, so just ran a fused 'hot' wire to the horn straight off the battery.

Then mounted a push button momentary switch at the dash area and ran the ground wire to it to complete the circuit. Done in no time.
