60" vs 72" Landscape rake for a B2601

I placed an order for a 60" rake but now I'm second guessing myself. Do I really need the ability to have it offset? Most of it's use will be to rake up what the flail mower destroys. Clean up the ditch, small tree limbs that fall during high winds, that sort of stuff.

Bigger is better for rakes, you can stick the end in the ditch while your tractor stays out of it.... Rakes don't need (hardly any) HP.

I have a 7 foot one with 28 HP, and I never feel it back there...

Attachments that don't dig too much or have too much drag weight can go to 72". I did use a 680 pound 60" grader/scraper on a JD 1025R and found the implement was more than the tractor. Now on my current 5460, it's amazing how much better I can basically flip a gravel road. I could easily go to a 72", but simply don't see the cost in upgrading. Everything said, with your limited weight and horsepower, 60" will give you great service.

I also got the 7 foot for my b7800, I thought at the time I was getting replacement tines for a small price this way. but found the I can clear the road and not have to be in the ditch AND if I turn it at an angle I can push material to the side and still covers my wheel tracks.

I was looking at a Homestead Pinnacle series, but I'm considering just making one.

The tines are the costliest part of the project, but it looks like a fairly straight forward project.

I went with an Everything Attachments Xtreme duty compact rake.

I looked up the Homestead. Looks like a good one. Gauge wheels look a little small but they get the job done.

How is that rake working out for you? I am in the market myself and haven't had any luck used.

I run a Land Pride LR1660 on B2601 and then on LX3310. The rake is too small. It's good for woods, easy to get into the building for parking, small for the trailer, but i really wish I had purchased a 72". The 60" rake never stopped the B2601 in its tracks, 72" would have been right size to buy, and saved some passes.

With gauge wheels, and good top / side link control, the 60" rake puts out a great finished product.

I'm definitely not worried about being able to drag the 72". I dont have a long driveway so I'm debating whether I need the extra length for offsetting it. The EA can offset at 2 point so it gives me more reach to the side when needed. I don't do any paid work so a few more passes aren't a big deal. The 72" on the other hand at maximum offset it would allow me to get closer to the fence line.

Unless you have spots that a 72” won’t fit well, get the big one. I use that same offset Extreme whatever model from EA in 72” flavors behind my B2650 and never have traction issues. Wish I would have bought the 84”!!!

Not everyone would need off-set or angling features, but both are handy.

Angling is especially useful when you need/want to move material to one side. I have a place on my property (back in the woods) that I put in food plots for the deer along old logging roads.

It is thick with pine needles each season. So much so....that it quickly balls up in front of the rake if left in straight position and begins to spill out each side of it. By angling....I can direct it to one side making big 'wind rows' that I can burn or pick up.

In my limited time tractoring, I have learned one important lesson in 3 Pt. attachments....beware the pins! The 1st BB I had was a cheapie for sure. And it showed. The pins look like the ones in this photo. Open on one side.

The issue is, after a while, they can bend. Or, they can bend the tabs they are mounted on. I gave it hell breaking up the dirt for the loop driveway, but I didn't think I was that hard on it. When one side bent, it was a literal PITA to get off!
On to the LP BB. Much better results with this one. The boxed/ captive pins are much more stout and have held up to some abuse. I've moved dirt, busted up red clay and even graded some larger stone sub base.

Just as a disclaimer: neither of these brands is what I had, or have now. They are just an example of the style of pins for the arms.
