400 Hr Service

My L3130 just hit 400 hrs.

I priced up the cost of the recommended parts for a DIY 400 hr service from my local Kubota dealer and I'm looking at >$600 for filters and fluids.

I'm tempted to go off brand but then, it will be a while until the next service. Anyone have thoughts Kubota brand vs less expensive alternatives? Filters and fluids.

Use the Kubota stuff. Really not worth the risk using off brand. And even if you found equal quality and spec parts and fluids (you likely will not) they'd cost the same anyway.
This forum is riddled with talks about this subject.
Other than a few members here finding their non-kubota hydraulic fluid as workable, you 'll find out there's no support for going off-brand with any filters.

Use Kubota fluids and filters..only $120 for filters,rest must be oils....

The real question comes down to dollars and cents.

Lets say you go with another "brand" and the total cost is reduced by $150 total.

I'm thinking your next fluid change is? 600 hours?

SO for a mere 75 cents per hour you will have the "correct" materials being used.

And almost zero chance of something going sideways.

I use (and always have used) only Kubota filters.

I use Kubota oils in anything that has a HST, electronic injection and/or DPF.

I use any name brand diesel spec engine oil in my 30+ year old B1750.

All engines are changed each fall regardless of accumulated hours.

No issues.

Just did that on my L3010 last year and was north of $700. It hurts Larry, but look at this way.....You're saving hundreds of dollars by preforming the labor yourself. Bottom line....do not use anything but Kubota oils and filters.

Well, back in the 1950's most tractors ran on straight 30 weight oil. Simply because it was the best oil available. 20 years ago big K ran on UDT and then ..... a new oil was "invented" - thus SUDT, and now we use a newer still oil , S-UDT2!

Oil technology like computer technologies have come a hellva long way in the last 70 years.

I find it somewhat demented that tractor owners with very old equipment still run the antiquated oils. And their first statement is ....... "it still works, why change?"

Manuals that were printed in the past, had no future to go by - and if some of live long enough, our grandchildren will look at us and say "pops - that technology is old school, this(whatever this is) is SO much better!

My L3130 was sold new in 2006. I think they had this run for 3-4 years. The manual has the same two options.
