3 cylinder L1501

I've just bought an L1501. It looks great and runs well, but I'm a bit confused.

The front cowl says it's an L1501, as does the plate on the side of the chassis near the clutch pedal. The problem is that all the data I can find on the L1501, or the L185 equivalent says it should be a 2 cylinder motor.

Mine has 3. At least it looks like it has 3. I have attached a couple of photos. The left side of the engine block is stamped K2 40109. The right side has 1115cc. The serial number on the "caburettor" (is that what it's called in a diesel?) is Z750-48645. According to my research the Z750 is also a 2 cylinder. Finally, on the top of the engine it's stamped K3-A.

So I'm trying to identify if this is a variant on the 1501, or if it's a refit with a different engine. Mostly I'm just trying to identify it so that I can get parts into the future. I'll need a fuel and air filter in the not-too distant future.

Thanks for the help!
Mike.

Nice looking tractor!
This isn't a variant of the l1501 but just a l1501 with a different engine. As far as i know the k3A engine is a 16 horsepower mitshubishi engine. And after a little searching on the internet, it seems the (bolens?) Iseki tx 1401 has the same engine. So if you need any parts you'd probaly go to a mitshubishi or a bolens/iseki dealer.

Mike,

that be 3 banger ! Looks like an engine switch was done somewhere.

Thanks for the ideas/confirmation guys!

KJD455 - I found the same on the internet with the K3-A bit. That was part of my confusion. Because another search shows that a K2 xxxxx on one side, with a 1115cc on the other is a Kubota D1101 variant. The post I found (may even have been on this forum) says that it could be a Vietnamese refurbishment.

My current best bet is that it's a L1501, with the engine from a L2000 (or 2201). But - the K3-A does confuse me - unless it's the same head as the Kubota engine.

The air filter element certainly looks exactly like a Kubota one.

Still confused :)

I'm thinking it's a L2000, 2201 or another, with a hood/decals off of a L1501.
What is the complete serial# on the left side of the transmission?

Hi Wolfman,

I thought the same originally, now I think it's a L1501 (transmission, PTO etc), with a 2xxx engine. The serials I have found are as follows:

Left side of engine block (cast) K2-40109

Plate on front left side of transmission (note plate has been painted over during refit and is hard to read)
L1501
12875
15
3000

Back left of transmission case (cast)
578 A1

Right side front of rear diff (under front of the seat) (stamped)
L1500-51260

Top of injector pump (I assume that's what it is - the pipes from here lead to the top of the cylinders) (stamped)
Z750-48645

Thanks!

Well all be dipped in... Stuff.
I would say if someone got a 3 cylinder to fit in there they really knew what they were doing! ;)

Thanks Wolfman,

I assumed it was like many cars - the same body/chassis can take different engines. Sounds like that might have been a bad assumption.

So the best guess I have is still that it's a 1501, with a D1100 or D1101 engine in it. Suits me fine - I like the extra power. But does anyone know a way to verify this, or tell whether it is an 1100, or 1101? Does not look like there is a lot of difference between the two engines (particularly in consumables) - but it might be important later.

The one suggestion I have seen is to check the dipstick. It appears that this one does not have an original dipstick, someone has crafted a dipstick for it at some stage from a piece of round steel. So that's a no-go.

Any other ways?

Look real close to the rear of the injection pump, may be hiding behind the hydraulic pump for the CC size of the engine.
