20 hours on new Machine, Hydraulic Pump Failure, Advice needed.

I purchased a new machine from our local dealer a few weeks ago and with less than 20 hours on the machine, the hydraulic pump failed (per the dealer who has been great to work with and came to pick it up the same day) They have placed an order for a new pump (backordered for 3 months) and offered a loaner machine.

Now here is my concern, hydraulic pumps are usually gear pumps, and with the failure like this I'm very concerned about metal shavings/debris has now circulated through the valve manifolds, cooler, tank, etc. Contaminating the entire hydraulic system.

My concern is now a future lifetime of early failure of valve seals, cylinder seals, and other components from this debris on the pressure side of the hydraulic system.

Obviously the machine is under warranty now and we do have KTAC insurance but what about when it is out of warranty? What would you do with 20 hours on the machine?

The hydraulic system has a filter. I understand your feeling of being snake bit, but I think it will be fine.

Your dealer sounds like he's on top of it and will get it fixed right.

What equipment is it?

That is a legitimate concern.

Unfortunately, of the two hydraulic pump failures I've deal with in the ~30 years of kubota work, Kubota never paid to do a full system flush. Believe me, I have tried to get em to.

Obviously a completely different machine, but when the pump went on our 299D skid steer, both drive motors followed shortly after.

Hopefully you can convince them to do a full system flush.

A lot depends on how it failed. My bigger concern would be why...

I would not want that machine back. In fact,,,,, if I was told it would take 3 months to get a part for a brand new machine I would be asking for a refund and looking at other brands.

Sadly, this is the new norm for a lot of things.

Brand new Ram trucks with failed DPF’s and replacements unavailable are commonplace as well.

Multiple pumps on excavators, what pump failed?

Go to the machine with a suction gun with a long tube take a couple
of oil samples and send samples for oil analysis to at least two different labs.

A friend of mine bought a new Dode 2500 diesel. The power steering pump went out 6 months after buying it.
The dealership did a nationwide parts search with no luck. The service manager then called the factory to try and expedite one. The factory said it would be at least 6 months before they had any available.
In the end the dealership bought the truck back and put them in something else.

Brand new work truck, we work an hour away... long day, heading home in the middle of nowhere and in the middle of the night. The shaft of the alternator breaks in half and takes out the fan belt to everything (mainly water pump!!). Pull under a bridge get a wife to bring us a vehicle.

Call the service department of Ford, no problem, they will go get it and fix it... was given the run around for the rest of the week on why it's not fixed. I called the service department, when the person answered, I said let me talk to your manager since you don't get paid enough for the tongue lashing I'm about to give out...

Same excuse that new model, no parts... not sure when We can get it in... I told them in some pretty colorful words that it was our busiest time of the year, we NEED that truck and that they should take the alternator off another vehicle to repair ours. They said they can NOT do that... so I told them to let the night watchman know that we'll be coming late at night to get some needed chemicals off that truck.

We pull into the dealership and was greeted with the service manager waving our keys... I told him thanks for getting it done!!!

If you have a customer down, with a new truck... you better do whatever you HAVE to, so they are good to go!
