    Aftermarket Coolant vs. Kubota

I've never been able to bring myself to trust the All Makes All Colors All Models stuff. If it calls for DexCool I use DexCool if it calls for Asian formulation I use that, Although on my last drain, flush, fill I used this stuff PEAK® Fleet Charge 50/50 Antifreeze/Coolant - 1 Gallon at...

    Aftermarket filters

No issues here. Local dealer is VERY reasonable. IDK actual cost right now but IIRC in most cases even LESS than the Wally World, NAPA, or other Auto Part stores. I NEVER order stuff like this from Amazon. As there are so many fake items being sold on Amazon in very convincing packaging

L275 alternator not charging. Diagnose & overhaul questions

I have the same one but got it from Harbor Freight (or as some call it) Hazard Fraught. Even my large compressor cannot keep up with it. Maybe because of what I tried to use in it (some kind of ground glass or something they sell for it). IDK but the experience was NOT pleasant :D

    Aftermarket filters

Yep years ago I did that and found out to the tune of a grenaded transmission. I'd run out of trans filters (my friend and I had a pretty much Mopar repair business years ago) and we kept a number of things in stock (all OEM BTW) one of them was trans filters. We'd used the last one, and I...

L275 alternator not charging. Diagnose & overhaul questions

So a quick search shows pretty much nothing for places to buy the parts. So in all likelihood if/when the day comes I need it, I'll likely just order one from DB Electrical. I know a lot of purists hate the aftermarket stuff. But honestly I've been buying their products for a VERY long time now...

Not exactly in my neck of the woods :D

L275 alternator not charging. Diagnose & overhaul questions

Where do you find parts to rebuild them at?

L275 alternator not charging. Diagnose & overhaul questions

Brings back memories. When I was a Cadillac Dealer Tech back in late 60s/early 70s I was still seeing cars in my stalls from as old as the late 40s up to brand new. If I rebuilt one alternator (Delcotron)I must have rebuilt well over 100, and same goes for the old "Generators". Starters, water...

    G1800, ran out of diesel...

Oh believe me I am old enough to remember "flashing" a regulator or a generator. I just never heard of anything called a "dynamo"

    G1800, ran out of diesel...

Ahh, OK we simply called those generators I never heard anyone refer to differences. Appreciate it

Adding an Oil Pressure Gauge and Temperature Gauge

So is the coolant temp thread size BSPT as well? I haven't gotten around to getting a gauge yet but hope to this year

Adding an Oil Pressure Gauge and Temperature Gauge

I added an Autometer mechanical oil pressure on my D782 (G2160) and it turned out to be BSPT. I do want to add a temp gauge as well but not a mechanical. I only used a mechanical oil pressure because I already had it. But, me, I would prefer to deal with electronic gauges.

    G1800, ran out of diesel...

So this looks like what is on my G2160. Oddly many years ago, (well actually not that long ago) nearly all vehicles had external regulators on their alternators. Even up until not long ago on a Chrysler product they had a SMEC (Single Module Engine Controller) which also contained the voltage...

    G1800, ran out of diesel...

What is the difference between a "dynamo" and an "alternator". Honestly I've seen the terms used interchangeably so it's confusing

    Oil change "question"

No, appreciated. Actually only asking because if it was a gasoline engine I'd know. But diesels are still a little "different" to me and what I'm used to

    Oil change "question"

No you did not read it wrong. This happened last year as well. Had a very dry late(r) summer. Little to no use in the last couple months of summer and into fall. IIRC I think I'd gotten 25 to 30 hours on the oil and filter, had planned on changing but then we got slammed with some snow and...

    Oil change "question"

I'm not sure if a diesel is more or less "forgiving" than a gas engine on this. My G2160 has not accumulated anywhere near 30 hours since I changed oil and filter early this summer. So pretty soon it will be relatively "dormant" for winter with a battery maintainer on it in the back garage. Part...

    Yet another Rotella question

For the small difference in price doesn't make sense to go with less than T6 (or something like it)

    Yet another Rotella question

If you have a Sam's Club nearby they have great prices on Rotella T6
