    Mower maintenance

It is the same setup on my F series 72" deck and the 72" midmount deck for my Deere 955 is also vented and the Deere manual makes note to clean it every time you check the oil level. Gearbox oil (and air) both expand when hot so if there isn't a functional vent then one or more of the seals...

Very nice! I often hear their "bob white" call but rarely see them. This year I have at least three pheasants nearby and one of them thinks I need to be awake around 5 AM. Rodger

    Mower maintenance

I meant check plug, I was thinking about a smaller garden tractor deck from another manufacturer I helped a colleague with last week where you had to fill through the check port. What I am suggesting is to pull the check plug IF the check and drain plugs are the same size like they are on my F...

How to start diagnosing crank-no-start on a kubota common rail diesel

As others suggested, check the voltage while cranking to the ECM 12V feed (and if there is a separate injection control module check there also). The ECM will want to see correct voltage and sufficient rail pressure to fire the injectors. Although a regulated lower voltage should be fed to the...

Google "measure thread size" and you will get lots of information, you will need a decent set of calipers. Or if you have an old fashioned hardware store with people that know what they are doing then someone there can likely measure it for you. Alternatively, pull the fill plug (cover the...

I have been through Terry a few times. My mother grew up in New Hebron and there were several relatives on her side of the family in Crystal Springs and Hazelhurst. I did my undergrad and MBA at USM so I traveled a lot in the south central part of the state. I miss the coast, particularly in...

Lifting Arms for the belly mower on my Kubota B2620 will not lower

Check the lowering speed control knob to make sure that it wasn't accidentally moved to the lock position. Rodger

BBFarmer, That is not me jumping! I wish I had that kind of talent (and that I was still a high school student, maybe...) :) I grew up in Gulfport and then spent about 3 years in Lubbock TX getting my PhD before moving to central Illinois. Rodger

I often hear quail here but rarely see them unlike where I grew up in Mississippi. There were a few that used to hang out in the front flower garden and the unsuspecting house cat accidentally flushed them and nearly had heart failure when they took off. Had the door not been open, the cat...

The rabbits didn't appreciate me mowing yesterday but today they seem to appreciate the results and give their seal of approval to the Kubota F2690. Captured with Canon 1DX II and EF 800 f5.6 glass. Rodger

You will need to pull one to measure because different gear boxes may have different plug sizes. Once you have the measurement, just choose one from the supplier, I don't believe either McMaster Carr or Grainger has a minimum order requirement and both provide fast service. Rodger

Both Grainger supply and McMaster Carr carry them, I buy more from McMaster but both are excellent supply houses. Rodger

    Mower maintenance

Branches and debris can cause a lot of "fun" with finish mowers. For many years I mowed with the Deere 955 compact utility tractor with 6' midmount mower that I bought in 1995 and the first year I had it I nearly ran over one of the front gauge wheels after a mulberry bush/weed snagged the...

    Mower maintenance

Seals fail but this is a pretty low probability event so it isn't something I would worry about constantly inspecting. But if you are really worried, I would replace the lower plug with a sight glass plug and if a visual check shows the plug is no longer covered then there is an issue. Or you...

Deck gauge wheel minor issue F2690

At 90 hours on my F2690, I had the first minor issue. I have the 72" rear discharge deck and I noticed one of the front deck gauge wheels wasn't running true. I knew I hadn't hit anything hard enough to damage it and the problem was 3 of the 4 nuts holding the two wheel halves together on the...

Nothing Kubota orange but some nice diesel smoke from the small town tractor pull I shot yesterday. Shot with Canon 1DX II bodies with EF 70-200 f2.8 and 24-70 f2.8 glass and image size greatly reduced to save bandwidth :) Rodger

    Retirement

I retired 8 years ago at 55 and was VERY happy with my decision. Last December, the university asked if I would be willing to cover a single course section for a visiting prof who decided to back out for Spring 2023 and I agreed. It was fun and I was asked to repeat this single section for...

    kx080-4 REGEN

For the longest interval between regens, you want high EGT and minimum particulate matter so it is a balancing act between RPM and engine load. You don't want it running at governed RPM for long periods with light loads because EGT and thus DPF temperature drop but excessive load at low RPM is...

    Low oil pressure shutdown?

Runs With Scissors is on the right track, if the oil level drops low enough that the pickup is getting mostly air then the pressure IS going to drop. You can see that happen with some wet sump engines in high performance cars where the high G force will cause an oil pressure drop in sustained...
