    HST For Dummies

👍I always let the tractor warm up until I see one block of the temperature gauge displayed before doing anything. In cold weather it does take quite a while. As the dealer I bought the tractor from told me, go out and start the tractor, go back in the house and have breakfast and a second cup of...

    HST For Dummies

Thank you everyone for your inputs. I understand the basics of hydrostatic drive and am working at learning the details. I've read the descriptions of the various modes in the WSM and am trying to get a better understanding of details of all the individual components, what they do, and how they...

    Does tire grooving really work?

Looking to buy a tire groover. Is the Ideal Grooving Tool good? It's one of cheapest & simple type I found but only 250W. Most others are 350-1000W. Does the Ideal generate enough heat to easily groove tires? Or if anyone could recommend other better brands I'm all ears!

    HST For Dummies

I am really trying to understand how the hydrostatic transmission in my tractor works. I have read the WSM on how the various operating modes work but it assumes you know the terminology and what the various parts are/do. Is there a site somewhere in the internet world where I can learn all of this?

    Front Axle oil filling process

No problem wolfman, your information was just one of three different answers. I had the wrong tractor model listed, so let's call it a draw:) Took a quick look at the L5740 axle part numbers for the various L5740 models. Axle case is the same for all, but gear case was updated. Maybe the newer...

    Front Axle oil filling process

There is no vent cap, but the filler hole is large enough to let air escape out as I add oil.

    Front Axle oil filling process

Oops, never noticed that I had the wrong model #listed in my profile. Is there a way I can correct that? It is a L5740. However, according to both my owners manual and WSM it is listed as 9.5 qts. the L3240, L3540 & L3940 have a 6.9 qt capacity. No models are listed as 6.3 qts. Is my information...

    Front Axle oil filling process

Seems that filling the front axle with gear oil is a several day process. The manual says it takes 9.5 qts but after about 6 qts it starts leaking out the fill hole. Wait a while and it will only take a little more. I check if every few hours after running the tractor and every time I check it...

    L5740 Stall Guard

Noticed today that the Stall Guard feature isn't working. When selecting from the mode switch the Stall Guard isn't displayed on the instrument panel and Stall Guard isn't working. All other HSC features work fine. Any inputs on how this works and where I should start poking around?

    L5740HSC front axle grease fitting

Any suggestion as to how much and often to grease this? I typically grease everything every 50 Hrs and I do remove the plug for the front fitting. Tractor has almost 900 hrs, so that propeller shaft cover must have a lot of grease in it by now!

    L5740HSC front axle grease fitting

Well, I greased it again and see no grease coming out from anywhere, or anywhere it could come out from, the whole propeller shaft is all enclosed. Any other clues to where all this grease goes???

    L5740HSC front axle grease fitting

Hope I can explain this so it makes sense. There are a couple of grease fittings in the front axle pivot area. One is in front of the axle and has a plug that is removed to allow the old grease to come out when greasing this fitting. There is another grease fitting on the back side of the axle...
