New to diesel -- what don't I know?

Thank you all. I appreciate the help from everybody. Especially: Thanks, I will get one. I had not even considered this. Thanks. Dohp! I have that manual and have no excuse for not reading it before asking. Thank you, This I'm somewhat familiar with (I refer to my 3020 as a...

New to diesel -- what don't I know?

I grew up around gas engines and know how to do anything required there. I did not grow up around tractors, except for very occasionally using a Kubota in my construction jobs. I was in my late 30s by the time I moved out of town and got a tractor, but up until now I've had gas tractors...

What were you able to do with your kubota that surprized you?

This is the best of the whole thread. Good work Grandpa,

Anybody use a box blade WITHOUT top & tilt?

Never had it, probably don't know what I'm missing. I do scrape the valleys too deep, but I'm hoping moving to the 50 years newer Kubota will help with that. My 3 pt tended to drift around on the Deere, I expect this to hold a setting better. OTOH, the Kubota is quite a bit shorter so...

    Can an L5740 handle a (7 ft) IH-80 snowblower

I assume you're taking the 20 or so less PTO hp into account? And I'm so "east river" that I'm almost "Bob in MN". I wish I could see mountains, or even more trees, but it is what it is and I'm glad I live where I do. Thanks,

    Toolbox Upgrade

My rear remotes seem to be bolted to the toolbox (and only the toolbox)? I was thinking I'd have to put the usably-sized box on top of the factory box (or make a bracket, I guess, but the back of the box is at an angle which cut into the usable space anyway.) I like the magnetic tray (and the...

How much ballast and how -- "new" L5740

Thanks, I just got home from dropping it at the tire place. I told them to fix up the rims, new tubes, and put the CaCl back in. I don't plan on lifting round bails for now, but will add some 3pt ballast if I lift a heavy stump or round bales. I'm down to only two metal 55 gallon drums...

How much ballast and how -- "new" L5740

The manual (for the loader) says, in bold, labeled !CAUTION: [for stability and safety] "ballast should be added to the rear of the tractor in the from of a 3-point counter weight and rear wheel ballast. The amount of ballast will depend on the application". On the same page, but not in...

How much ballast and how -- "new" L5740

Hoping I didn't ask too controversial a question (who are you voting for, which church do you go to, is CaCl God's gift to traction or a curse?). Let me ask slightly different questions. 1) If you have wheel weights, to you actually take them on and off for different chores? My dad has a...

How much ballast and how -- "new" L5740

I just got my L5740. Tires are loaded with CaCl, which I was told had leaked and been cleaned up. Turns out this was not the case--they are still leaking. I'm taking it to the tire place on Monday to get rim cleaned up and new tubes. Nobody here (within 50 miles) does "beet juice", and the...

    Can an L5740 handle a (7 ft) IH-80 snowblower

Thanks. I spent more than I was comfortable with for the tractor--if I can hold off on implementats for awhile that'd be great. I was planning on needing a snowblower, and a 6-footer would eventually be less awkward either way. It also seems like something breaks in the IH-80 every time I use...

    Can an L5740 handle a (7 ft) IH-80 snowblower

After the last couple of winters I'll take the heat. It gets cold here, and fall is way too short. I probably have till October (most years) before I worry about serious snow. February is the worst physically, but March just grinds on your soul. Most folks are planting gardens and we're still...

    Can an L5740 handle a (7 ft) IH-80 snowblower

Which blowers would be a good match for this tractor? Our snow normally isn't too heavy, but it can be deep at times. We do often get some heavy, wet snow in April. Needing to clear a 500 ft. driveway and a (guessing) 120x75 sq. ft. yard. I'm thinking ($) I need to stick with rear mounted for now.

You posted a link to you moving some snow back when your L5740 was new. Can you tell me about...

You posted a link to you moving some snow back when your L5740 was new. Can you tell me about the snowblower you were using? I now have a "new" 5740 and am thinking I'll want to downsize from my IH-80 (7 ft.) blower. I'd like to get a solid 6-ft. blower if the tractor can handle it. I...

    Can an L5740 handle a (7 ft) IH-80 snowblower

Hi All, I just got an L5740 to replace a JD 3020 (and a Ford 4000). I've already got the IH-80 with the hydraulic spout and the 3020 did OK with it. Not great (reverse gear is too tall), but OK. The JD claims 70-ish PTO horsepower, but this one was gas (and obviously 50 years old). Surely...

2.5 gal YELLOW fuel can? (maybe Orange?)

I'm guessing the spendy "spill proof" nozzles will only fit their cans? Somebody said they have a wider opening, so this is probably the case? I like, and am stealing, the "platform" on the loader arm idea but am having trouble wrapping my head around $35 plastic fuel cans. I also have lots of...
