OEM Ignition Switch for ZD326 Worth the Extra $70+?

The brake switch has both contacts, NO and NC according to schematics. I still do not believe switch being open when brake applied. And there is a bit more than just connecting all switches in series.

OEM Ignition Switch for ZD326 Worth the Extra $70+?

Yes, I know it's a different part. What I meant was that I cannot believe that it is open when brake applied. I think it is closed when brake applied.

Wrt to the NC brake switch... is that really open when the brake is applied? I believe the NC refers to the switch lying open outside the tractor. For a safety function I would imagine the switch closed being safe (brake applied). So is it possible that it is mounted mechanically to be open when...

This is exactly the way it works on my G1900.

OEM Ignition Switch for ZD326 Worth the Extra $70+?

That's right. You basically have to power the solenoid (for 8 seconds in my tractor) when power has just been removed through the starter switch. Power can be held with a field effect transistor easily. I just wanted to point that out when you use an off the shelf timer. A simple momentary kill...

OEM Ignition Switch for ZD326 Worth the Extra $70+?

I know, I believe that is included in my cost calculation. But, in fairness, I think the potting was done to improve reliability because of vibrations. So I do not believe the potting was done to prevent you from repairing it.

OEM Ignition Switch for ZD326 Worth the Extra $70+?

Well, that's what they did. They built a timer and added some safety switch logic. Production cost maybe $30 in quantities, $340 sales price, looks like a good business model to me. ;)

OEM Ignition Switch for ZD326 Worth the Extra $70+?

If you want to replace the controller you would require a timer that is active when you switch off the "ignition". The tricky bit here is that this timer has to be powered while ignition 15 is off. So the timer has to be powered directly from the battery. Hence you want one that has a tiny...

OEM Ignition Switch for ZD326 Worth the Extra $70+?

So the engine is stopped the same way with powering the stop solenoid? The PTO switch is for safety aspect and probably also to prevent strain on the starter motor and battery. The added inertia of the deck blades would mean much longer time to accelerate the crank shaft leading to...

Sorry to hear that. Wrong technical information is worse than having no information I think.

    F2680 supernatural phenomenon

Well, it is happening. Only idea I have is that when the mower is running the oil accumulates in other parts of the drive, possibly through vacuum due to cooling oil and air and lack of venting. When you pull the dipstick this vacuum is removed and the oil flows down where it reaches the dipstick.

OEM Ignition Switch for ZD326 Worth the Extra $70+?

Ok, I think this means that the stop solenoid has to be powered all the time for the engine to run. And stops the engine when power is removed. This is better from a fail safe perspective. On my tractor the solenoid has to be powered for a few seconds to stop the engine. Stop solenoid is also...

    F2680 supernatural phenomenon

Is that after the mower has been sitting for a few hours or after running it? Sounds really weird. Maybe it is a singularity in the space-time continuum, same problem as missing 10mm sockets, odd gloves or odd socks 🤪
