A little gunsmithing on a hot afternoon

I blueprinted the action and sleeved and jeweled the bolt. I replaced the barrel with a Krieger stainless and chambered it for 22-250. I also built a custom in the same caliber with a Defiance action and another Krieger barrel. Great for the varmints out west!

A little gunsmithing on a hot afternoon

Not sure what that is about but I bought this used and then blue printed the action and installed a new barrel. There is no issue with the receiver. The issues have been with the rails and rings/mounts. As to how I set this up in the mill I will try my best to explain: first I clamped the...

A little gunsmithing on a hot afternoon

I actually have three lathes. I think I know what you’re suggesting and if I have it right, I can accomplish the same thing in the mill. (Which I just finished up this afternoon) Off to the range tomorrow morning and commence with the testing. This all started when I watched a video on scope...

A little gunsmithing on a hot afternoon

Going down one of my rabbit holes just to satisfy my curiosity. Just for the heck of it, I put my Rem 700 action with the scope rings installed on the mill and checked them for parallel and alignment. What I found out was shocking! Nothing with the rings was even close to be in line. The...

    Loader pin bores

I’ll add this. Where there is weld there is warp. Best practice is to weld in undersized bushings and then bore/ream to size. Also keep in mind the weld will shrink the diameter of the bushing if they are bored to the proper size before welding. IOW the pin would be riding on a narrow ring where...

    Trench Closer?

You might also consider lining the inside with some plastic to help the soil release the sides better. McMaster Carr has a lot of choices.

    Six engine aircraft

Just a versatile aircraft. They are also used as ‘Hurricane Hunters’ to fly into the eye of a hurricane and measure barometric pressure. I read that NOAA has two on order to replace what they use now.

    Six engine aircraft

Driving south yesterday I spot this huge military cargo plane. But with the sun right behind it I can’t see too many details other than it is a turboprop. It has the profile of a C 130. Then it banked right to make a landing approach to the Green Bay airport and I was shocked to see it had 6...

    A little Machinist advice please

What Lil Foot said plus I would make it a slight press fit on the shaft. Also would make sure that shaft isn’t bent.

    Firewood bucket recommendations anyone?

I use my grapple. I curl it all the way back and it will hold approximately twice what my bucket will hold. The negative is I have to load it by hand.

I am guessing that the auto body people might like this trend. Matching color versus the metallics must be easier. Am I wrong?

Engine Horse Power not as advertised

Flintnapper pretty much sums it up. How was the hp measured? PTO, crankshaft, at the drawbar? What kind of dynamometer was used for measuring? Were the numbers calculated for temperature and atmospheric pressure? How many hours on the engine?
