Widening a too narrow 3 point implement

I went back through this thread, because I thought I'd said that earlier. I'm slightly off the hook though because I did say earlier how wide the QH is and how long, long-enough bolts would be :) But to answer the question directly: when I set the pins so the Cat I's are on the outside, it's...

Widening a too narrow 3 point implement

Yeah, I went ahead and ordered the Pat's QH. As for the top link, sorry for any confusion, that's never been the issue - it's the two bottom links that I've been struggling with. As for general use, I think I'll find a way to extend the tractor's top link holders a few inches towards the rear...

Widening a too narrow 3 point implement

Well this will be a test for my local dealer. I just got the QH15 about 6 weeks ago, and told them right away that implements weren't fitting. And I'm about to buy a cutter from them, so we'll see how willing they are to work with me on the QH :)

rc51, gvjay, and bobinsd - thanks for your responses. So the baling is done, the baler is unhooked (quite a chore), and I'm trying to get a solution now, while things are still fresh in what's left of my mind. I have two approaches I'm focused on: 1 - Make longer bottom "pins" for the...

Widening a too narrow 3 point implement

From the "no good deed goes unpunished" department... Ok, I really like this PAt's QH. Thanks for telling me about it. Now, I have a hydraulic top link, has anyone ever seen any sort of "top link extender"? IF the "pat's" thin adds 4 inches, thn i'd like to extend the top link 4". And yes, I...

Widening a too narrow 3 point implement

I'm really thinking about the "Pat's QH" that rc51stierhoff told me about. I'm going to sleep on it, but I might see if I can return my QH15. This "Pat's QH" seems like a great solution for me. Some of my implements are land pride, but some are either older or foreign, and this "Pat's QH" thingy...

Widening a too narrow 3 point implement

Thanks for checking on this. It looks to me as though what you found are the various bushings that can be used with this QH. These are useful for changing the diameter of the pins on the implement, but what I need to do is change the distance between the implement's two bottom pins. Is that...

Interesting! I've never seen that before. So how does the toplink work?

Widening a too narrow 3 point implement

My baler is a Farm-Maxx, FMRB-330. The specs say you should have at least 25 HP. I think what's going on here is that this baler is made in India. I'm guessing that 25-50 hp tractors in India have narrower 3-point setups, but that's just a guess. Also, the baler weighs 1200 pounds. My QH is a...

Widening a too narrow 3 point implement

I have four separate fields I'm haying. Each one is on it's own schedule as far as when it needs to be tedded, raked, or baled. The result is that when it's time to hay I have to switch implements back and forth many times. As I joked earlier, the real solution is to have two tractors, one for...

Widening a too narrow 3 point implement

I had a similar idea: If I got a high grade steel bar 32" x 1 3/8" and attached that to the baler, that would seem very strong. I'm a little worried that the long bar would be close to the PTO (above) and the area where hay feeds into the baler below - lot's of stuff going on in a small space.

Widening a too narrow 3 point implement

Does my answer on post #18 answer any of your questions? I've done just a tiny amount of welding - no way am I experienced enough to want to trust my baler to my welding :) I'm looking for a welder who will come to me, but so far, no luck. As for swapping the "tabs" on the baler, I looked...

Widening a too narrow 3 point implement

It's a fine question. I have to hay several different fields and so I have to bounce back and forth between my tedder-rake and the baler. I told my wife that the best solution would be to get a 2nd tractor ;)

Widening a too narrow 3 point implement

On each side, the inside of the QH is 2 3/4" from the baler. I ordered some Grade 8, 8" x 3/4" bolts from Grainger. I'm thinking that if I shim the bushing really tightly on the bolt and then add enough nuts so that the bushing and nuts and washers are all tight from left to right, that will add...

Ideas to make implements QH compatible

On the baler, from outside to outside of the two bottom pin attachment points is 21 1/2". My QH15 from inside to inside is 27". So the inside of the QH bottom links would start ~2 3/4" from the baler. In other words, there would be a distance of 2 3/4" between the baler and the start of the QH...

Ideas to make implements QH compatible

Thanks! Any idea how to convert between these grades and also for example between these grades and something like "ASTM A307" which is something I found following the links to the FASTENAL website mentioned earlier?

Ideas to make implements QH compatible

Sorry to wake up a zombie thread? I'm trying to widen my 1200 pound mini round baler's bottom pins so I can use my QH. In another thread, folks have recommended that I weld supports onto the baler. That option is still possible, but this discussion makes me think that maybe I could just use...

Widening a too narrow 3 point implement

Ah, interesting! So the pin would be supported from both ends! Any idea how to find a 3/4" x 8" piece of high quality steel? None of my local tractor dealers have pins that long..

Widening a too narrow 3 point implement

I think I understand your question. As an experiment, I bought a few 3/4" x 8" bolts with nuts. Not high quality steel. I was able to use the quick hitch to attach, but the bolts bent pretty quickly. So yes, I can attach to longer pins, if they'd be strong enough.
