Paint for bare steel homebrew attachments?

I find single part moisture cured polyurethanes to work really well. One (over-advertised) product is POR-15; there are other sources. Some have aluminum powder mixed in... excellent primer. Not cheap, but a quart will likely suffice. Very tough. Can be top coated with your favorite spray...

    Front end loader B6100

The loader that i adapted to my B5100 was (I believe) intended for a B6100. The uprights are about 2 x 4 x 3/16 at most. (tractor is 900 miles away so no measurements, sorry). Keep in mind that the front axle loading needs to be considered with these tractors; you're is limited to 500 lbs as...

Drilling holes in ROPS a bad idea - safety / warranty

Hydrogen embrittlement details: https://www.imetllc.com/training-article/hydrogen-embrittlement-steel/ Generally not a problem w/ low strength steels; 1018 - the stuff you get at the steel yard is fine. Chrome plating is efinitely an issue w springs, high strength bolts and similar higher...

    front PTO for B6100

Hi Tim - A Fenner disk is what I did a few years ago to put a loader on my B5100. I miked the OD of the spline, bored one end of a 1" or 1.25" rod to be a tight fit over the spline, and turned the other end down to 5/8" to hold a Lovejoy coupling. I put my driver adaptor on, torqued down the...

    B5100 Crankshaft spline issue

Ancient post, but: I made an sleeve that's a wring fit over the existing spline, and use a Fenner shrink disk to compress the sleeve over the spline when the small bolts are tightened on the shrink disk. Easy to remove, and the the sleeve drives a chain coupling and thus a small hydraulic...

    B6001 ROPS -Homebuilt

The hard part of the ROP is getting all the attachment bolts right; the loads from various sorts of accidents can go in any direction. The ROP on my B5100 picks up a lot of bolts in different orientations, including some on the differential. Remember to include a seat belt! - Bart

    B6001 ROPS -Homebuilt

My B5100 (basically same size tractor) has a main tube 2" square; I cannot measure wall thickness but I'd guess 1/8" or a bit more from the sound. The supports that fasten to the tractor are 2 1.5" tubes of similar thickness welded side by side. Stout. The ROP is new and made by FEMCO, inc; I...

Pictures of a B6000 loader subframe

Here are some pictures of a subframe I made for my B5100 4wd. I remade the one that came w/ the FEL; it was supposed to fit my tractor but didn't. Most challenging part of the installation was figuring out a way to drive the hydraulic pump, as the 18 tooth 21 mm spline fitting is unobtainum...

    B219 FEL Improvement

On motorcycles, rubber boots are used to keep rocks, etc. from dinging the tubes... fork boots handle ~13 inches of travel; w/ a bit of plastic up they could be doubled up. The industrial felt is the approach I used when I made way protectors for my lathe - keeps metal/grit from getting under...

    homemade bushings

You may be able to use Delrin for bushing material, depending on the loads involved. If you can fit large enough bearings to hold lbs/in^2 down to 10k psi or so, these will work for you. Otherwise, bronze is a good choice. Preventing the pins from rotating is important. - Bart

B211 loader subframe pics or description wanted.

Got some more time in on the tractor. Welded up a front assembly to support the braces for the loader uprights and made new braces; I had to remove the original braces welded to the loader uprights since they hit the air cleaner and muffler on this tractor. I used rod ends because it made...

B211 loader subframe pics or description wanted.

Had a couple of days to spend on the Kubota... got the subframe welded and rattle canned.... a little overbuilt, but since I can still lift it and it doesn't have to fly, I'm happy. Made it from about 7' of 3" x 1/2" flat bar, the original uneven leg angle, and some misc. 2" pipe and 3/8" plate...

looking for a sprocket for my front PTO

I've been giving this some thought, and I think I'm going to try some 5/8" hydraulic hose with sturdy clamps as a coupler between the two shafts, which will abut each other. This hydraulic pump doesn't take a lot of power, and this should work fine. The clamps, etc. will all be well out of the...

looking for a sprocket for my front PTO

Yup; that thread was inspirational :). The 'end of the shaft' is the engine crankshaft; that's staying in the tractor for now w/ any luck. I've got a good lathe and mill, rotary table, etc, but forming a spline of unknown pattern is a nontrivial project for me. I'll look for a better...

looking for a sprocket for my front PTO

Thanks for the response. I've not found anything w/ a suitable spline; there's quite a history of people looking for such because the PTO adaptors wore out quite quickly as they were apparently too soft and the oscillating torque of the little diesels hammered out the splines after a while. - Bart
