L2501 Turbo: A Journey Defined - The tractor, The comparison, The modification, The results...

The Turbocharger is good out of the box for 6-7psi at full load. I did adjust my waste gate to ‘near-maximum’ to deliver 9-10psi at full load. It wasn’t necessary but part of the testing process. If you’re not seeing much boost, it probably doesn’t have enough load. As an example, I can put...

Here’s a few pics of the Turbo pipes along with….the new downpipe; The new downpipe flows the same as the original pipe but, offers better clearance and easier installation. Mike

    Truck / trailer questions

Agreed. I sold my Ford SuperDuty Diesel 4x4 and replaced it with a Toyota Tundra 5.7 4x4. I really really enjoyed the SuperDuty. Great truck and TONS of power but, I only drive my truck a couple times a week and seldomly tow with it. It just wasn’t worth it having an $85K lawn ornament...

    Spec’ing a new tractor

Agreed. Well, kidding aside, the Turbo Kit makes the L2501 a very capable beast; …and 35 PTO HP never hurts. However, with the possibility of a front mounted snowblower…the LX might be the ticket. But, if the OP is concerned about size/weight, the Grand L (in its many forms) can be...

^^^^ You could also look into wheel spacers which will help with stability on hills. Mike

    Spec’ing a new tractor

The LX2610 is a great machine. I’m not sure of your budget but, if you stay with Kubota, from what you describe, I’d probably be looking at the Grand L for its larger size and weight (assuming you don’t mind emissions equipment). Mike

    5 Acres: LX2620 vs LX3520

I was concerned that you might be operating in high elevations which could contribute to a loss of power should you decide to purchase the LX2610. You’re good. Mike

    5 Acres: LX2620 vs LX3520

The LX2610 should be adequate for your needs. The LX3520 will simply get certain tasks done quicker. What elevation is the property? Mike

    Engines at altitude

I don’t doubt it. The L2501’s modified with the Turbo kits are performing exceptionally well in the high elevations. Without ANY fuel adjustments (just bolting on the Turbo kit and using factory fuel settings) they’re reporting a significant reduction of EGT temperatures, reduction/elimination...

    D1703 engine

^^^^ All you have to do is get your tractor over here and give us 30 days and it’ll have a new Turbo Kit! ;) We’ll definitely have a Turbo Kit for the L2502. We just need a tractor and a bit more research needs to be done on the injection pump and engine internals as mentioned previously. Mike

    Engines at altitude

    That’s a fact! Mike

    D1703 engine

^^^ I’m pretty sure there’s some additional power to be gained by adding fuel and advancing the injection timing (and possibly increasing the RPM limit). In time, we’ll be developing a Turbo system for the L2502, however, more research needs to be done on the new injection pump and engine...

You can’t trust the parts diagram. The L2502 pump is a different design. However, you’re more than welcome to pull it off and play with the shims. Please take pictures if you do. Mike

    D1703 engine

The injection pumps on the L2501 and L2502 are completely different. I haven’t had the chance to really dig in and research the L2502 pump yet but, if you do a search, I made a thread and took some pictures illustrating the differences between the two tractors. Mike

This Thread is simply about how SATISFIED and HAPPY a man can be with a Kubota Tractor.

I’m certainly happy and satisfied with my L2501; ….especially after the Turbo upgrade!! 44HP and 35 PTO makes the L2501 experience that much more enjoyable! Mike

L2501 Turbo: A Journey Defined - The tractor, The comparison, The modification, The results...

For sure! We’re working on a couple new Turbo Kits now! I too wanted to perform a before/after dyno but, unfortunately it wasn’t an option for me. However, if we can get another local sale, I’m hoping I can convince them to do a before and after dyno. I’d just like to have it documented. I’m...
