The empty slot is for a third set of remotes. Your #2 has the float function. So you need to swap the hoses between the the sets of remotes. To do this you need to pull out the lower left hose, then the upper left hose and push it into the lower left port, then put the other hose into the...

Intake blows white smoke, no start

Interesting. Most engines turn opposite that. If you lower the 3pt all the way down, then move the lever to raise, then crank the engine and the 3pt starts to lift, then we know for sure the engine is turning in the correct rotation. Another way would be to connect a engine oil pressure gauge...

Intake blows white smoke, no start

It sounds right other than looking at the front of the engine it should be turning clockwise, counter clockwise if looking at the flywheel end. When you turn it with the starter, which way does it turn ? If it is turning backwards, that would explain a lot.

Intake blows white smoke, no start

There are keys for the crankshaft, camshaft, and injection pump gears. Maybe it sheared one when it quit on the last owners. That would through it out of time. It maybe out enough to through it out of time and not run, but not enough to bend valves.

Diesel Fuel storage indoors or outdoors

Without question, inside, just like a furnace oil tank. If you are concerned about vapors, vent them out side, but would try vented inside first. The main thing is to try to reduce temperature variations as much as possible. This what draws air/moisture into the tanks.

In the second picture it shows a cyl with a curvy line, that would be the float location. Most rear remotes have a separate lever for each remote. Yours seems to be using the loader joystick to control them. It would be all the way forward on the joystick, past a detent. Do you have a loader ?

    Hydraulic top link questions

I almost always use my quick hitch, so there is very little to line up. IF I do connect to something with the quick hitch, I put the top link into float, then push/pull on the end of the cyl to adjust it. If your has the load check vales in it, then there is no way other than using the lever...
