Best Tool For 11 acres of maintenance and improvements

I think HST and 4WD nearly go without saying. An LX to an MX will work, except the finish mowing of a lawn. That should probably be done with a dedicated machine or if this new tractor needs to do it, a MMM. Which means a mid PTO putting you in the LX and Grand L territory. Not sure if you have...

Anyone know of a good rack system for holding small tools?

That some good looking and functional custom fab work there. That’s the B26?

    Keeping the cab clean

Oh bummer. Messed up that hatch pretty bad. Too bad the car had to get replaced as a result. I’m sure that wasn’t inexpensive. As to videos of the wife hitting things, my wife would be getting even with me if I posted such things. Right now I’m still repairing the ATV from operator malfunction...

What ROPS toolbox are you using?

Here’s a link to a write up I did for my tractor. Tractor Storage Basket The idea is very similar to @GeoHorn’s. If you do a search, there have been several discussions here on OTT in the last year or so about tractor storage and tool boxes.

L3130 - suspected crankshaft damage - how to remove engine

I haven’t used any aftermarket Kubota engine crank shafts myself. But, my modus opperendum is to use OEM parts or to repair OEM parts vs use lessor expensive aftermarket parts, especially if the aftermarket parts are made in China (don’t know if that’s the case here). I find that typically OEM...

When men were men and boys were men!

There’s no shame in trying. I’ve gotten my butt handed to me as often as not. Whether I’m likely to win or not doesn’t keep me from trying like hell. But I’m a bit stubborn like that. A good challenge is good, win, lose or draw.

    Retirement

Perfect! Congratulations! I recall my last evening leaving the office after 31 years. Kind of bitter sweet. Then we had a party!🎉 Now I sell my skills back to the same outfit on my terms, part time. My rate is just a “little” higher now. 😁 Enjoy the next chapter. You’ve earned it!

    Cut ‘n’ Paste

My tractor won’t start. What’s the matter with it?

Clearly I had no idea how to grease trailer wheel bearings that have zerk fittings.

Well if you discount every analytic piece of data he stated in that YouTube video, he has the concepts about right. Although not sure why he thinks the jacking point has to be the frame whereas a nice spring perch on the axle ought to be fine too.

When men were men and boys were men!

Took damn near as much manpower to make that haystack. Back when an honest day’s hard physical labor was something to be proud of. That’s why that picture was taken. That haystack was something to be proud of because of the effort it took. Same with that pile of logs. It wasn’t the logs to be...

3 point won't lift after fluid change

I suppose the knob that adjusts the rate of the that point lift decent below the seat in the center isn’t adjusted at the way tight (slow)?

    Bunny hopping when slashing.

    Goodbye?

    Bunny hopping when slashing.

I’d try to isolate the situation that causes the bunny hopping. Normally you run with the PTO on 4WD. I’d try PTO on 2WD. PTO off 2WD. PTO off 4WD. Etc. I agree the behavior is odd. It should not bunny hop.

Do you buy yourself a Christmas present!

I should start buying myself an official Christmas gift. Typically I buy what I want after I’ve squirreled away the funds and completed my research and find it at a fair price. This year I got a new to me truck to write off to the farm. Last year it was the little B mowing tractor. Next year...

L2501 - broke the exhaust manifold

Back in the late ‘70s my brother and I worked for a not so old farmer for a day. He asked us how much we wanted. We said $5. Yup we got $5 to split. Later on we heard about minimum wage. It was $3.35/hr. That’s about $10.45 today. Gas was less than a buck a gallon.

    Tractor drawbar

lol. Well…not saying my compression struts are both perfectly straight (anymore). I suspect it’s due to exactly that reason. Weak sister 8N. 😁 Also have a Jin pole (boom) that uses those same struts.

    Front ballast question

Agreed. My experience as well thus far, but you’ve got me by better than a decade. Ever have the hydrostatic range lever drop into neutral on a hill? That will get your blood pumping. I make dang sure the range lever is fully engaged, usually in low for slopes. A friend of mine had it happen to...

    Tractor drawbar

Very good point! The system I use now and shared the picture of indeed has that weakness. Most of the others similar to it have the same issue. As pointed out a chain would limit the upward movement. Although I like the compression struts on that old N better.

    Tractor drawbar

This is how I did it on my 8N as well. Kept the 3 point from coming up when I stopped. Plus I was able to operate the trailer brakes with a couple momentary on buttons, one on each fender. Towed about 4 tons. Not saying it was smart.

    Front ballast question

Makes me wonder how steep the slope is if you are seriously concerned about the front of the tractor lifting due to the weight of the brush hog on the back. As I suppose you know, the three point system can not hold an implement down, just gravity doing that. So if the front of the tractor came...
