Threaded the adapter into the ORB port so I could index the direction for the hydraulic tubing. Finished up the part on the mill and then tested it for clearance. I've got about an 1/8" to spare. Next will be flaring the tube and tig welding it to the adapter. Stay tuned...

    Stump grinder build

Very tight clearance for the return hydraulic fitting on the boom cylinder. Decided to custom make a fitting to accept some 3/8" hydraulic tube. Used the plug to rob the dimensions off of and turned down a piece of 1" mild steel and threaded it for the ORB port.

Working on the inner boom. Material is 4x3x3/8 rectangular tube. The tube will be sliding in and out of a 5x4x3/16 rectangular tube so I welded on 1/4" strips on all sides to take up the slack. Welded it in sequence on all four sides to prevent warping, which turned out well. After welding, I...

    Stump grinder build

Both the right angle drive and the hydraulic motor have conventional 1-3/8" x 6 spline shafts, so I'm using a 5" couple to tie them together. The end plates were water jetted out of 1/2" plate and the housing is 4" square tube x 5/16 wall. Some milling for bolt clearance before welding and then...

    Stump grinder build

Had the tooth blade water jetted out of 1/2" plate along with the holes for the teeth (Greenteeth 700 series). I'm going to be driving this directly off of the output shaft on the right angle drive, so I machined the bore for the coupler so it was a slight press fit. Welded the coupler in place...

    Stump grinder build

In the process of building a stump grinder for my L3901. Using this first post as a test for uploading images. If I have it figured out and it works, you will see the drawing for the concept I have come up with. It will have an extending boom with hydraulic cylinders to lock it in place...

    MIG Welder Mentoring

Your way of thinking is right on. What I would do is pull the covers off the machine and look for signs of something getting hot. It could be something as simple as a slighty loose connection or even a bad ground clamp. Best to give it a good visual anyway. Favorite welder in our shop is a...

    MIG Welder Mentoring

I'll suggest to check your wiring connections from the breaker box up to the welding plug. Sounds like a classic case of a loose wire somewhere along the circuit. Not that I'm against you getting a new welding machine. Just saying...

Kubota Orange RAL color (RE: Powder Coating)

Keep in mind there are two Kubota orange colors. The older bright orange and the newer reddish orange. I would recommend testing a small piece before attacking those wheels.

    Powder coating

What kind of powder are we talking about? Polyester, hybrid polyester, super durable or epoxy? What kind of prep work was done before application? If the surface was not prepped correctly, the coating has nothing to hang on to. There are zinc rich primers which along with a super durable plus a...

    Water seperators

Thanks Bulldog! Do you see much water? I like the idea of the 2 micron filter. Ever had one plug up?

    Water seperators

With the new fuel injection systems, I'm thinking that keeping water out of the common rail (is this what Kubota uses?) would only help prolong pump and injector life. What aftermarket separators are you using and what is your opinion of them?

    Build ROPS (need advice)

Gotta ask. What size/shape/specs on the chromoly? I'd trust my own ROPS out of chromoly over the factory unit any day as long as it was sufficient size and shape.

    Appropriate RPMs - L3301

I'll add to this: When mine did the regen, light #5 started flashing indicating to increase rpm's. I slowly increased the rpm's until the light went off, around 2600. I can't remember if light #3 was already lit or if that came on when #5 went off, so somebody who has been through a couple of...
