1. Any reason not to use a lock n roll hitch?
Do you mean Rock n Roll ? or Pintle Hitch - I would always use a Pintle or equivalent hitch in the woods. Even with level ground you might have go thru a ditch or over a rock or large root. I have never, knock on wood, had trouble with my hitch set-up even going down some pretty good hills.
2. Did your winch not have kick stands on it? Or are your additions more robust so as not the fold the OEM ones?
The winch is an 25 YO Farmi 290 with just a plain dozer blade. I added all the rest.

3. The 4 corner posts look like they might fold but I am confused as they set in a stake pocket? What am I missing on the corner post bracket construction with stake pocket below?
The trailer is a 3000 lb capacity Pronvost that has removable panels

I added stake pockets. I used to load it by hand in the woods, then block up on the trailer, and split at the shed. The loading by hand part is a no-go now - thus the interest in a crane.

A couple years ago I made a cutting table and one side of the bunks that could fold down.

4. With the modification do you now winch the logs from the crane? (Don’t take crane on / off the winch?)
Some times but only if I cut them into short/light logs first. This works good if I am going out to pick up one tree or a clump that fell on the road or a trail. But if I am thinning or working in a broader area or have longer winch pulls I like to go out first with just the winch and bunch cut to length logs trail side.
I pulled this mess out of the apple tree with just the winch and left it trail side, then came back later with the trailer when I had a couple three such piles spread around the woods.
