Pretty sure you'd want to stick with a diesel-rated motor oil.

Beyond that, any flavor is your choice.

let see if we can clear up a bit of "oil" thoughts.

Diesels burn and thus give off a good amount of "soot" - the soots are simple carbon particles of not 100% burned fuel.

These particles can add up and actually become somewhat "large" in a microscopic level.

The diesel oil has additives that "capture" these particles ........... well, let say they make the particles NOT get together.... keeping them small and hopefully captured in the filter medium.

SO it is really a MUST to use diesel OIL in a diesel engine = you pick the brand and weight!

I don't recall any recommendations for diesels that were not for diesel engine oil. Check the API ratings. Oil for gasoline engines starts with "S"" and diesel with a "C". Easy to remember by Spark vs Compression ignition.

When I first got my B7200 in the 1980's I used regular automotive oil for the first couple of oil changes as it was also good for "light diesel engines". Not sure if that is the case now or even if a Kubota engine could be called "light". Have consistently used proper diesel oil since then.

There are plenty of dual rated oils targeting over the road diesel engines in cars and light trucks.. API rules say the C rating should be listed first if the oil is formulated for diesel and also passes gasoline engine requirements. If the oil is formulated for gasoline engines but also passes diesel requirements the "S" category is listed first.

A B7200 probably does not care of its a "light duty" diesel oil.
