Only one guy actually answered (correctly I hope). Never said it was my BX (and it is not) Never said I'd be using HP other than at the PTO (I wont be)
I'm thinking a chipper on my other 'Green' tractor. My BX digs/moves dirt and pulls stuff.

How bout you find the info you need in the manual of whatever mystery tractor you are refering to.

At least the title of this thread is correct.

Sounds like he already knew and only wanted to see how many others know or could correctly guess..

No,

No, I was curious if people had the knowledge. It was a simple question. How many HP is at a PTO of a tractor with a 24 HP diesel..I really did not need to know how fast a Swallow can fly.

You know, I've read it a few times and did not find that spec, hence my question. I've found most of the members here are typically more knowledgeable and courteous. The 'Green' forum, most of the guys are rather clueless.
My limited knowledge is the brand of tractor does not matter, it is engine HP then at the PTO is typically X for ANY machine.

Actually the PTO hp relative to the engine HP is not a fixed percentage and does vary somewhat brand to brand and also depends on the type of transmission, i.e. geared vs HST. A simple online search for specs of the particular tractor in question will usually result in finding the answer.

PTO hp might be similar, but it is not the same across the board. How much power is transferred to the PTO depends on transmission type, as well as other accessories like a hydro pump that the engine is running ahead of the PTO. That said, @mikester gave an answer that should be sufficient.

Any decent owners manual ought to tell you pto hp, If it doesn't I'd call a dealer an ask. I think that would get you a better answer than having us guess.

Not really sure what you meant be your comment on courteousness, or on the speed of Swallows...

Well let me tell you it absolutely matters. That’s why to provide a better/accurate answer, the first question to ask is what model tractor. Beyond that it’s just a guess.

Instead of the guessing games of what tractor you’re even talking about or the speed or fowl.

Note: An HST tractor uses some HP even when it's not in motion.
Also if there is any hydro load that will effect HP output.

Another interesting variable that comes to mind is the fact that determines what one horsepower is. Going back to basic physics: It takes 1 HP to raise 550 lbs. 1 foot in 1 second. If you're running your tractor uphill with a loaded bucket, rear implement, (maybe loaded tires), etc., its not hard to calculate the engine HP it takes to just move the complete unit uphill at the speed you've selected..... before accounting for any HP left over to apply to the various ptos or any ground engaging implements.

Ball Park 75% or 24 x .75 = 18 hp at the PTO. YMMV

My BX1880 has 13.7 hp at the PTO
18 x 75% = 13.5 hp
This was my 'wild guess', a 25% ;loss' when stationary Hydraulics not working but fully pressurized sucking up power, more on a HST tractor due to a larger hydraulic pump.
Thank you very much.(y)
