It seems like when you do favors for people over time it becomes an expectation.
We had a saying at work:

“Every day, do just a little more than is expected of you and soon, more will be expected of you. No good deed goes unpunished. Keep doing more and more with less and less and one day you can do everything with nothing. “

If the person you’re helping has no more appreciation than you describe, then you’re not doing them or yourself any favors. You’re being used. It’s high time to let them know that everything has a price and that price is based on market value. The only language that people like that understand is the language on the bill that a paid contractor uses to describe how much they owe.

If you grew up like me, it is hard to not be generous with neighbors. I believe that having good neighbors is the result of being a good neighbor, but I won’t let someone use me because they think I owe them something. I owe nothing to no one except my wife and it’s a foregone conclusion that I will never be able to pay her back for all she has done for me. I’m retired and don’t work for a living anymore. I work becauseI have something to do or someone needs help, and I’ll gladly do that rather than sit around watching tv. I can’t be still, and I was raised to never let someone struggle if I can help. My modification to that training was a simple “and if I know they appreciate it”. For the most part, I help anyone that asks, but won’t hesitate to put my hand out for some cash if I know the deed won’t be reciprocated.

I made a step today to make it easier to add fuel.
Those little pumps from HF are the bees knees. A couple new D-cells each year empties a 5 gallon can in less than 10 minutes. I set the can on the loader boom and stick the pump in and Bob’s yer uncle. I wait until I know 5 gallons will fit and just empty the can.

That's a good looking barn you got there.

thanks intent ia to hold an entire half year of large squares along with all the tractor equipment on pallet racks along with the tractor and have space for word working and metal working for projects and a repair maintenance area

This is more of a 'hope to do tomorrow' post. We got power back (after 9 days) at my sister's and my farm rental house yesterday morning, so I have a place to stay with power and water. The neighbors across the road don't have power. We thought they might stay at my place, but they made other arrangements, so I can use it.

I think the power company temporarily cut the end of the tap so all but the last of us, 3 houses and my shed, could have power while they repair the rest.

So, my plan is to go down for a few days and do what I can to clean up. My BIL thinks I'll have to do some clearing to get Katy out of prison so she can help. I think just one small tree fell on my shed, bending the roof edge a bit. I'm anxious to see how my trees fared, especially the pines, but it'll probably be several months before I really know. I may try to call the local state forester, but I suspect he'll be hard to catch.

The city utility got back up Monday, I think. At the peak they had ~5500 of their ~10,000 customers out of service. The rural association, which includes about 1/2 to 2/3 of the city area plus the rest of the county plus edges of 3 adjoining counties, has ~6000 still out, out of ~30,000 total. At the peak, 28,000 were without which quickly dropped to around 24,000.

Edit
I don't want to derail this thread with stuff a lot of people don't want to read, so I started a new one over here.

Yesterday I feel an Oak and made a real mess. Broke the top out of two other tree on its way down. You can just see one of the tops to the left of the picture.

Cut it up into 80" logs and moved them closer to the bucking/splitting area. I used the L3901DT to take the two butt logs first, they were more then I should have taken, but I was trying to beat the melt of the ground.

It isn't the best tree for firewood, but I knew it would have a bad section in it, that's why I cut it down.

Moved some more dirt from the second driveway this afternoon, had the rear blade decide to part ways with the tractor in mid pull ..... you know .... the usual! 😂

Is this AI? This time of year, I would expect you moving snow not dirt!!!
No AI but mid 50s again today. This has been the most bizarre Montana winter I've experienced in the 12 years I've been here. It's supposed to get colder in a week or so with lots of snow on the way, or at least that's what my neighbor told me today. It feels like spring to be honest.

We are snow free too and all of drive thawed out, and turned to mud.
Way too odd for us!
I was working on my drive too and had the land plane take off on it's own! 😱
It was 100% my fault as I opened the QH to swap over to a trailer mover then changed my mind back to keeping the land plane and didn't close the latches.
The land plane is way easier to rehook.
Hope you didn't do any damage to the hydraulics or the lines when it came off.

Yesterday fell one of the trees the top got know out of and used the L3901DT and grapple to move the 60" logs to the splitting area. Was able to get 3 of the logs blocked up and split.

How did the blade come off? Someone steal your pins?
Good question. I wasn't going to do any post failure analysis but you got me thinking about the sequence of events that caused or allowed this to happen. In simplest terms, I was driving forward to load up the bucket with dirt, and in a moment of stupidity thought that I could/should pull the blade at the same time in order to be more efficient. The tractor is certainly capable of it, so without thinking I dropped the lift arms all the way down and kept moving, which took all the weight off the lift arms. The blade hit a submerged rock towards the outer edge of the right side causing the entire implement to rotate clockwise, as viewed from above.

I didn't have any lock pins/clips inserted in the ends of the CAT 2 pins, and there was sufficient play in the lift arms (via the stabilizers) such that the right side CAT 2 pin in the blade was able to escape the clutches of the heim joint of the right side lift arm, with a little plastic deformation of course. Once one pin was free the other went into herd mode and quickly followed suit.

The photos of shame. 😂

For a bit more detail, when I bought the Buhler/Farm King blade a couple of years ago, the holes for the pins to connect to the lift arms were worn out. They were between a CAT 2 and CAT 3 in size, so I decided to buy a couple of CAT 3 to CAT 2 pins, plasma and file out the undersized holes to fit the CAT 3 O.D. and weld them in. My thinking was that I could/would eventually buy a QH20 and would pick up the Buhler blade using the captive CAT 3 part of pin. But, I could also pick up the blade as I've been doing using the lift arms directly and the CAT 2 pin interface.

Had I used lock pins/clips to prevent the lift arms from separating from the welded pins I'm not sure what would have happened. I don't see any damage to the tractor and put that down to enough play of the lift arms (left to right) and a soft enough pin that bent under the load.

My plan today is to pick up the blade with pallet forks and chains and move it out of the way until I decide what to do. I'm leaning towards biting the bullet and buying a QH20 so that I can easily pick up and remove the Buhler beast. I would cut off the CAT 2 pins that protrude, leaving the welds in place and call it good.

I want to get the QH15 and EA box blade on the M6060 today, but before doing that I want to address the constant oil leaks from the piece of junk Faster hydraulic couplers. I'll be switching them out for something that doesn't leak all day, every day. The MX rear end is as dry as as bone after four years of hard use, but the M rear end is like a cow's arse. Faster is shit stuff in my opinion. They have a terrible system of seals and such that will piss oil all over the place. I will NEVER buy any FASTER products again.

Here are some photos of the CAT 3 to CAT 2 pins that I welded in.

A weird winter indeed!

Shit happens right ... 😂 ... but no hydraulic lines were damaged in the making of this film.

Funnily enough, the M6060 just kept on going and it took me a few seconds to realize that I was dragging the rear blade with the top link. It's a big, heavy, strong tractor at close to 10,000 lb and plenty of torque and it takes a lot to stop it. I learned once again that trying to use both ends of the tractor at the same time isn't a good strategy. 😂
