Sucks when those pesky trees jump out in front of you. The chain saw comes out when one irritates me.I had some loads like that today, a tree stepped out in front of me and stopped me suddenly.
Last year I cut a dead one down, as I was cutting it up, preparing it for a winter cremation, it lunged into the end of my chainsaw causing a kickback. Serious injury to my pretty face. I've been attacking trees for at least 62 years and now they decided to fight back.
Know what you mean. Used to cut pulp wood many years ago. Have had a few kick backs putting me on my arse.
Everytime I fell a tree I know that 'it' will use the laws of gravity to kill me if at all possible.
It is war.
Act accordingly.

I just gave this advise to a neighbor who lives at the foot of the mountain. He says he is afraid to go near a stand of trees near his creek as beavers have chewed all the way around them and they could fall anytime.Shoot the tree?
I have not seen them yet, but offered him my AR-15 and told him to aim high
That would be another "non-chainsaw" option. Dig a pond and get a few beavers in to do the tree felling work for you.
In my case the tree was down laying across a stone fence. It appeared stable and easy cutting with it about two feet off the ground. All of the limbs were on the opposite side of the fence, but the trunk had a mind of its own. It happened so fast that I didn't know the details till I was able to get down there and investigate. When it happened I had cut two rounds off and was heading for the third. So I stacked the two rounds on the end of the log and it went down and away, I pushed them off one at a time and the tree attacked. The marks were on the log where it took a rather light bite. I did several things wrong, first I should have checked the balance but it looked perfect. Second, I should have left the saw come to an idle as soon as it cut and not moved till it did. Third, I was going for that third cut without stopping to think and check balance.
Did the 400hr service on the lx2610 today. The hydraulic fluid looked pretty good but the front axle fluid was ugly. Took my time with it and didn't have any real issues. I figured after 400 hrs it could use a hosing off so I got out the presdurr washer to get the heaviest stuff off. No need to go too crazy.

Got back to working on cleaning up the mess I asked the contractor to leave after the two abandoned wells were closed. The concrete and brick I hauled off a few days ago amounted to a bit over a cubic yard. Not too shocking that left a dirt deficit of a bit over a cubic yard when I started returning things to a reasonable approximation of the original grade. At least close enough to not allow mosquito breeding mini-ponds.
Still had some dirty creek sand in a pile on the far side of the creek from where the bank was dug down for the crossing. Wasn’t much left and the grass was covering it pretty well, but there was enough for the three buckets needed for this job.
Yes, that is actually the trail headed back. Haven’t been down there much lately. The trail is much more obvious in person than it is in the photo. It would be more conducive to walking if I’d run the bush hog through there but it’s fine like it is for the tractor and Mule. Just a bunch of grass.
Not exactly lawn landscaping quality but this was an abandoned area in the middle of a thicket which will be abandoned again now that we’re done working here. Considering the intended use and context of the surroundings, this is perfectly lovely.

I hope your “pretty face” is going to be okay! Did the chain cut you or did the chain brake work and stop the chain and you “just” got a nasty slap from the bar?
It was 15 months ago, I could gross you out with photos, it was a severe cut that came within 1/4" of my eye. No chain brake on this saw, it would likely have helped but I still would have taken a hit.
I wear the helmet with face cage guard, Not convinced that it would help in a kickback situation but it does keep bigger chunks out of my face.
Me too. But he didn't have a chain brake.... ?
I get kick back on occasion if I bury the tip of the saw or it gets pinched in the cut.
My worst situation is a flip in the cut off and the tree or limb or round flips towards me.
I have cut just a few trees down, but never - ever did the chainsaw bar or chain get near my face.
It was a bad situation that WE ALL can do if rushing or being careless. @lynnmor said the he didn't have proper balance and went to the next cut.
Chainsaws are serious. Like a hand grenade. And this is serious stuff. @lynnmor lives to teach us all.

Yep. Used to cut down trees when I was younger but these days, I am far more cautious and picky about which ones I do myself. If my "spidy sense" starts tingling, I'll call a pro to do it. I worked in healthcare and saw plenty of lifelong professionals with serious traumatic injuries. If that can happen with the pros, it can certainly to me as an amateur. When I buck up logs I wear the aforementioned helmet with leather gloves. I have Kevlar pants but find them hot and restrictive enough to make me unsteady on my feet. Instead, I raise my work to waist level, use a new or sharpened chain, take frequent breaks, and quit before I get stumble tired.
