Hey guys,

I'm fitting up a Chinese auger for my mini but don't know what hose size would be best for it. The auger came with 1/4" lines (that are way too long) and M14x1.5 ends and a M18x1.5 adapter that threads into the auger drive.

I have 1/2" flat faced couplers on my machine so I will need to add the same size coupler to the (new) hydraulic hoses to make the connection. I will need to get some adapters for the auger connection to hydraulic hose (M18x1.5 male to whatever I chose for hose side).

Since I will be adding new hoses of a shorter length should I step up the hydraulic hose diameter to 3/8" or 1/2"?

According to what I can find about the auger, it looks to have a flow rate of 8-16 gal/min. My machine flows around 14gal/min. The machine has a diverter valve on the dipper, so, I believe that I can control the flow rate the same way that I do for the hydraulic thumb.

Appreciate your suggestions regarding hose diameter.

I think @TheOldHokie included a chart recently, but I couldn't find it. So here's another one. If you're really pumping 16 gpm, 1/2" should be ok.

The larger the hoses the lower the resistance and lower the heat, so always better to go bigger on a hydraulic drive than smaller.

Thanks guys. Looking at the chart posted it would make sense to just go with the 1/2" line.

I only found one supplier (McMaster Carr) thus far that has the adapter needed to go from M18x1.50 to 1/2" NPT. I did get the quick coupler ears welded up to mount on the auger...this rig is getting freakin heavy!

I would use 3/8 minimum. Eric
