A friend of mine told me my worst problem was that if I think someone's stupid, I tell them I think they're stupid. I asked "How is that a problem? They NEED TO KNOW!!! It's in their best interest if I tell them so they don't go do anything dangerous and get hurt. If they ignore me, then I've done my best for them, been the best human being I could possibly be." And yes, it's quite obvious on my face when "You're stupid." is about to fall out of my mouth. I can't seem to control it.

Not really sure if this is a chuckle for the day worthy...I was fit to be tied when I found it.

Here's the story.

Wife had a deer smack her jeep 2 months ago...I decorated it for her since it was the day before or after thanksgiving when she was putting up some holiday decorations.

2 months later, Jeep goes in the body shop for repairs. Wife picks up Jeep from the shop and parks it in the garage. I figured I'd better look to see what kind of job the body shop did.

Hmm... Paint looks great, door and hood gaps are very nice. Great! Let's pop the hood to be sure.

3 hints:

1) Look at the cap on the reservoir
2) Have you ever seen blue antifreeze that smells like alcohol?
3) have you ever seen "Full" and "ADD" on a windshield washer fluid bottle?

What does this cap mean to you?

Ask those questions to the owner of the body shop.... then have them drain and replace antifreeze. And you might check the other container!

I haven't done the calculations lately, but I'm thinking we're down to about $100/dozen, almost fair market value. Despite using mostly reclaimed materials, the fasteners and roofing and wire have cost me close to $500 to build that coop/run. They're all laying now, 6 out of 6 most days, so the price will eventually get below grocery store level (maybe). I see you have at least one Barred Rock as well. Those are very sweet and gentle birds. When I go in the pen to fill up the feeder, I have one that will stand on the toe of my boot until I hang the feeder back up.

Not true. I worked on stuff I designed quite often, mostly expansions and mods requested customers. I ALWAYS designed with maintainability, modification, and repair in mind. If there's anything I learned in a 45 year career it's that a customer WILL change their mind regardless of cost. The other thing I learned is that if you want 5 ONLY ways to do something, just ask 5 engineers. You will assuredly get 5 completely different ONLY ways.

The difference you see, is that it was a PHD you were working for? You know what BS, MS, and PHD stand for? BullS**t, More S**t, and Piled High and Deep. I never take offense to a good engineer joke. That may be what made me a half decent engineer.

Do not dismiss the part "accounting engineers" contribute to bad design and implementation. Have you ever listened to and "accounting engineer" randomly decide to take 10% out of a project element?

Accounting Engineer is an oxymoron. That is a contradiction of terms. Accountants are the bane of engineers, and vice versa.

Yup, June bug to the middle of the forehead at 100mph. I was about 14 and on the back of the bike behind my step-dad.

PHD meant 'Pretty Hopeless Dude !' Agree 'some' engineers are pretty good, IF, they're actually in the Real World,hopefully get their hands dirty fixing whatever they designed.

Had a team of Bell Canada 10 engineers( 2 were VPs) say, without question, they could use DVACs lines and 'modems' to connect my remote energy control system computer and remote unit. It took 27 guys in 27 COs to interconnect all their equipment, about 17 hours. They said it's all hooked up, go ahead test. Dismal failure, and I KNEW it would be. I get a bill for over $10,000,so I called, explained it didn't work and she had 3 choices, send the bill to the VP Tech in Montreal or to the VP Comm in Ottawa, cause I ain't paying it. ANYONE with basic electronics knowledge would have seen on day 1, hour 1 WHY it couldn't ever possibly work.

On the other hand, good friend, designs and builds his own CNC machines(wood 'carving')Not just the mechanicals, but the PIC microcomputers AND all the 'front end' software. I can send him 5-6 pictures of 'this' along with a few key measurements...he drops the product next day ! Super smart, cut code to tell if a control valve was open on an oil rig in the middle of the ocean...entire system. So yes some are smart.
