Just got off the tractor and found these spots in the snow.

I looked for a coolant leak but that seemed ok.

I am thinking that I ran over a nail and it's tire ballast, but couldn't find it with a "cursory inspection"

I can't remember what type of ballast they put in, but I thought it was "beet juice".

I have only ever ate 'red beets" though.

Guess's?

Diesel fuel or your dog is working hard at marking his territory. Check your fuel filters for a loose clamp.

Grab a sample with snow and melt it, that will tell you if it's water soluble or not.

The what does it smell like?

Melt the snow. Take a lighter to the fluid. If it burns, diesel. If not, hydraulic. If it puts the flame out, drink it 🤣

N.Y,
It's the juices you squeezed out of the weeds under the snow. I had similar last week when the ground under the snow wasn't fully frozen.

OMG...now that I think about it, I think you might be right. We only have about 1.5 inchs of powdery snow right now, the ground is only partially frozen, and there is a small concrete sidewalk that I was going over and I did tear up a little of the lawn.

So I'll bet I crushed some grass.....

As a matter of fact, during the "investigation" I kept picking little pieces of "bright green flecks" off the tire...

Hahahahah......I bet it's "grass juice".......

It will be light in a few hours, so we will see, but thanks for the insight @Sidekick (y) 🍻

It has been confirmed!!!

I just move the tractor and there were no leaks found, so @Sidekick was spot on!!!!

It was "grass juice"... 🍻 (y)

Don't you have the JD Dye in hyd fluid? ;)

FWIW I hate the flux in temps we are getting here - I have been moving some fallen dead ash off my older next-door neighbor's property and have to cross her "lawn". Just to be sure, I am only going when highs are below 32 even with my R14s.

Also turned my side yard into a mud bog last thaw around the holidays - should know better but the tractor makes things SO much easier!
